This year’s lighting ceremony for Kaunas residents and city guests is a bit different – the celebration could only be viewed in a virtual space. However, even such an alternative did not hide the “morengine” Christmas tree, whose sweetness could be perceived by viewers on television or on the computer screen.

Before and after the lighting, the brightest stars of the Lithuanian music world took the stage one after another. The hit car was started by Saulius Prūsaitis, the best Lithuanian songs were woven into a Christmas garland by Martynas Kavaliauskas.

Finally, an impressive concert was completed with 6 fireworks that lit up the Kaunas districts. Therefore, even at that time, spectators were able to see part of the ceremony through windows or balconies.
The concert highlighted other details of the Plaza del Ayuntamiento: the festive atmosphere around it was created by the owners of the surrounding cafes, bars and restaurants. It was they who contributed to the decorations and decorated their windows with details related to Christmas motifs.
It is true that next to the sweet Christmas tree it was possible to see another decoration – a house, which became the residence of Santa. It is a shame, but due to security requirements it will not be possible to visit it.
The inspiration for the Christmas tree is morengi
The Christmas square was delighted with an exclusive Christmas tree created by artist J.Šmidtienė, with other decorations that descended from the clouds: these are more gin trees, sugar lambs and wooden horses dating back to memories of the childhood.

“This year’s Kaunas Christmas theme is a sweet Christmas fairy tale. The Christmas tree will be more than 24 meters. The decorations are made of environmentally friendly insulating material. The vanilla white color will dominate ”, assured N. Prevelienė.
Spruce creator J.Šmidtienė revealed that the inspiration for this year’s Christmas symbol came to her unexpectedly. At home, admiring the morengi, he drew attention to the beautiful texture of the dessert. Of course, the textile artist believes that sweets are an integral part of the holidays, especially in the context of these days when people spend a lot of time at home.
“I wanted to create something that was sweet, light and fragrant at home. We tried to extract different textures and finally we discovered one that was especially reminiscent of morengo or whipped cream. Now the Kaunas Christmas tree is born from him “, 15 minutes smiling the artist.
