Coronavirus situation: In Lithuania, a record number of new COVID-19 cases was detected per day: 2,239 cases and 22 deaths. 1,776 COVID-19 people are treated in hospitals, 126 of them in resuscitation.

* The outgoing Minister of Health, Aurelijus Veryga, announced that those with COVID-19 would not have to re-isolate for three months. This procedure should come into effect in the near future.

* A record number of new cases of COVID-19 coronavirus infection is registered again in Russia: 27,543.

* In Germany, the number of COVID-19 cases exceeded one million. The country was relatively successful in dealing with the first wave of coronavirus, but the incidence of COVID-19 increased dramatically in the fall.

Nominations of Ministers. President Gitanas Nausėda announced that he would not approve all the candidates proposed by Prime Minister-designate Ingrida Šimonytė as ministers, but has not yet revealed which candidates will be rejected. The president promises to announce the decision next week, probably Tuesday. He has already met with four ministerial candidates.

Speech from Belarus. Maksimas Chorošinas, a Belarusian citizen who moved from Vilnius to Minsk, appealed to Lithuanian prosecutors to launch a pre-trial investigation into the torture suffered in Belarus. “I miraculously escaped from prison because I had to flee to Lithuania. President Gitanas Nausėda declared that if the new Minister of the Environment does not change the government’s decision to expand fishing opportunities in the Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve, he will appeal to the Constitutional Court. He said he saw this government decision as a major problem plaguing the reserve.

Sale of Mezon. The telecommunications company Bitė Lietuva was allowed to acquire Mezon’s internet and data transmission services from the Lithuanian state radio and television center.

Maradona’s funeral. After the legendary Argentine soccer player Diego Maradona was beaten in the Presidential Palace in Buenos Aires, a confrontation broke out between riot police and soccer fans who occupied the courtyard of the presidency and interrupted the great soccer player’s farewell. In the past, public photos of funeral home photographers taking pictures of a soccer player in an open casket were outraged. Maradona was buried in a cemetery on the outskirts of Buenos Aires.
