World weather forecast: summer will be record heat

Already in the first months of the year, everything indicated that 2020 would be one of the hottest years since the observations began, PMO spokeswoman Clare Nullis said in Geneva on Tuesday. Cities and communities, he said, must prepare now to protect people, although the coronavirus pandemic can make it difficult.

In previous years, for example, people living in overheated apartments were advised to visit great supermarkets. Neighbors were encouraged to regularly visit lonely and therefore potentially vulnerable people. Meanwhile, now, during a pandemic, there is a recommendation: stay home as much as possible. Additionally, hospitals have focused on treating patients with Covid-19, which can result in a lack of support for those affected by heat stroke.

The WCO, together with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners, offers online suggestions and good examples from other countries on how to protect yourself from the heat. For example, it is recommended to wear a wide-brimmed hat during the heat, drink enough, cool the joints of the hands with cold water, apply cold compresses to the forehead or neck, rub the legs and back with ammonia, and turn off the most frequent heat sources: electrical appliances and artificial lighting.
