The Vilnius City Council and the Ministry of Culture have completed negotiations with the Spanish architecture studio Arquivio Architects, which was recognized as the author of the best project for the National Concert Hall at the international architecture competition last year. Yesterday, after the project parties signed an agreement on the design of the National Concert Hall “Tautos namai” and the supervision of the construction project, a difficult stage was completed, during which the scope of services was agreed, the quality requirements, the preliminary design deadlines and finally the price of the design services.

Including the acoustics project, which has been entrusted to the main Japanese specialists in this field, the cost of the design services of the “Tautos namai” National Concert Hall will reach 6,989 million. (with tax).

“It is paradoxical that we sign such an important contract when the activities of concert halls around the world are suspended. But I think this situation will change soon, and we will use that “musical break” to prepare a solid project, and finally the day will come when global cultural events will take place in Vilnius, “said Mayor Remigijus Šimašius.

Last year, the team of ten architects Arquivio Arquitectura (project manager Daniel Fraile), who won an international open architecture competition, used the architecture studio Cloud Architects, which has extensive experience in design in Lithuania, as a common practice, ensuring a smoother design process.

Funders of the National Concert Hall project After the Ministry of Culture stressed the importance of preparing the acoustic part of the project, the task was entrusted to world-renowned specialists: the Japanese acoustic engineering company Nagata Acoustics. The Nagata Acoustics team, who have many concert hall projects implemented in their work list, emphasize that they scrupulously use a unique methodology to find solutions while successfully applying computer technologies. It is planned that, to achieve the highest sound quality, it will be modeled not only virtually, but also by building a real prototype, only much smaller, of the room.

The “House of the Nation” concert and venue complex will be erected on the site of the former Trade Union Palace on Taurus Hill, next to the park and the Lutheran Garden. The total area of the complex will reach 16,000-18,000 m2 M. meter. The Great Concert Hall is planned to have a capacity of 1,500-1,700 listeners, it will be adapted for both classical music concerts (symphonic and chamber) as well as for other genres of music concerts (the acoustic quality of the hall is expected to be adjusted using a projected variable natural acoustics). The small, otherwise multi-functional, professional performing arts hall with 500 seats is intended for the presentation of a wide range of artistic genres. The third room, “Casa de la Nación”, will be dedicated to exhibitions, events and educational activities.

A fourth separate room will be designed for the daily activities of the resident orchestra, mainly for rehearsals. In terms of acoustic properties, it will be close to the Grande, and the same size scene is planned. The hall that connects the complex will be adapted to carry out various temporary and permanent activities, there will also be a restaurant and a bookstore. The framed terraces and roofs of the buildings should open up a breathtaking panorama of the capital.

Architects and engineers will work with professionals, architects, city planners, and heritage professionals in many fields: acoustics, stage technology, various genres of music, dance, theater, and other performing arts. The start of the preparation of the technical project is marked in 2020. November 27, the end is scheduled for 2022. at the beginning. Until then, all stages must be completed: coordination of solutions with the public, intermediate coordination with non-governmental organizations and stakeholders.
