President Gitan Nausėda had questions about Evelina Dobrovolska, a candidate for Justice Minister appointed by the Freedom Party, with sufficient professional experience and authority in the legal community. However, the president will later announce the decision on this candidate for the government formed by Ingrida Šimonyt.

On Thursday, G. Nausėda met with E. Dobrovolska. The conversation lasted a little longer than expected.

Antanas Bubnelis, spokesman for the president, said after the meeting that he focused on “higher quality legislation and a greater role for the Ministry of Justice in this process, as well as a more flexible prison system.”

“The candidate is brave, determined, willing to make changes in the ministry. But the main question is whether I would have enough authority in the legal community and enough experience to implement these changes, “said A. Bubnelis.

He also stressed that “the president listens to the debate that is taking place in society” about this candidate. “This will be taken into account in the decision,” the spokesman said.

After announcing E. Dobrovolska’s candidacy, the candidate was publicly criticized for having obtained only a law degree, for failing to pass the bar exam. He also had to publicly explain about the tattoos he had.

According to A. Bubnelis, “meetings are currently being held with the ministerial candidates and a response will be given to the prime minister-designate on the suitability of these candidates in the near future.”

After the meeting, Dobrovolska herself said she was satisfied with the media that, as Bubnel said, “this meeting was one of the most interesting for the president.”

“We discussed my vision and the most important work ahead of us. These are the improvement of the legislative process, the filling of legal loopholes, the improvement of the sanctions system. We need to talk about a different approach to prisons and we must reform the entire punishment system, because now 62% of prisoners return to prisons after a while, ”said Dobrovolska.

She assured before meeting with the head of state that she had “done her homework and was ready for the interview.”

Ms. Dobrovolska also said that she had presented the president with “specific candidates for some of the positions in the future team and the areas for which they would be responsible.” According to the ministerial candidate, G. Nausėda “has not received any negative reaction regarding the proposed candidates – some of them are known to the president, others not very well.

Ms. Dobrovolska did not mention these names to the media, urging them to wait for a decision on her appointment or non-appointment as Minister of Justice. In the event that she was appointed, she stated that decisions about team members would be made in person.

“I leave the final evaluation to the president. But I feel very good,” said E. Dobrovolska.

32 m. E. Dobrovolska has a law degree from Mykolas Romeris University. actively cooperates with non-governmental organizations, specializes in human rights cases, guaranteeing the rights of national minorities. E. Dobrovolska, a member of the Polish Freedom Party, is a newcomer to this Seimas.

On Tuesday, the Seimas approved the candidacy of Conservative representative I. Šimonytė for the post of Prime Minister. On Wednesday, the president appointed her as the next prime minister by decree and began meetings with the ministerial candidates.

Once the Seimas approves the candidacy of the Prime Minister and the President appoints him, the Prime Minister, no later than 15 days after his appointment, will present to the Seimas the Government formed by him and approved by the President, and will submit for consideration the program of this Government.
