“We will light the main Christmas tree of the Kėdainiai district municipality in the Big Market Square December 4 (Friday).
As usual, we do not invite people to the square due to the pandemic, but on that day, the day of the lighting of the Christmas tree, Santa Claus will visit the town of Kėdainiai. He will travel the streets of the city in a festively decorated 1.5 meter electric car, waving and wishing good humor, “says the representative of the municipality about the plans for the celebration.
Music will also create a festive atmosphere in the city.
Route of Santa Claus and virtual lighting of the Christmas tree
Santa is scheduled to ride down Didžioji Street, visiting the Great Market Square, through the city, on a pre-arranged route.
Grandpa’s tour of the city streets will begin at 4 p.m. M. And already at 5:30 p.m. M. At 6 p. M. will arrive at the Great Market, where the Christmas tree will be lit.
From here, a festive Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be broadcast directly to people throughout the district through the municipality, the Cultural Center and other channels.

Due to applicable restrictions and safety requirements, Santa Claus will not get out of the electric car anywhere, he will only greet the electric car if it stops at certain places.
“I am very sorry that many things have to be given up for the safety of people. There will be no beautiful themed show that is planned for the celebration of the Christmas tree lighting.
There will be no trains already planned, so our little ones were very happy last year. This entertainment has certainly brought a lot of joy to children this past Christmas, but perhaps children will not be too disappointed that they will have to see the Christmas tree this year and there will be less lively attractions.
However, I have no doubt that all together as a family we will be able to ignite the hopeful hope of our little ones and they will accumulate the most beautiful impressions and experiences in their little hearts during this pandemic period ”, says J. Liutkienė about the different Christmases that will be looming.
Festive facilities in Kėdainiai park
Among other things, the Cultural Center is taking the initiative to place the art installation “Snow Queen” in the Kėdainiai Park, in the new pergola behind the glass display case.
The installation would be created from various available resources, scenery for performances, other costumes, scenery.
“It would be like a historical retrospective, of things before seen, feelings, memories and pleasant moments that go back to the past in this symbolic round of 2020.
I don’t know how many ancient things the Cultural Center will remove from its reserves, but it will be good to see and recognize them. At the same time, it will be a completely new experience for all residents of the city, ”says J. Liutkienė about how Kėdainiai will be decorated this year.
According to her, the decorations would be lit by LED bulbs, so not much electricity would be consumed. All these people could look through the glass.
Citizens are encouraged to create a Christmas spirit
Already last year, an attempt was made to expand the number of decorated places: the Christmas tree near the municipality was impressively decorated and many beautiful reviews were received, as it could be seen from the main street of the city J. Basanavičiaus for everyone passersby. There was also a new ice wall – the Knypava Market Square, which also became a center of attraction.
“It just came to our knowledge then. They want more beautiful places in the whole city, so many years of competitions in the most beautifully decorated building during the decade have also done their good work and have accustomed each institution, organization during these wonderful holidays of the year, not only to organize and beautify, but also to create a great atmosphere – first of all, to our employees and customers, as well as to residents of the entire city, ”says J. Liutkienė.
The organizers of Christmas celebrations in the city hope that there will be more such beautiful places.
“If we all focus on what is pleasing to the eye this year, we will be able to see many miracles throughout the city and district. Let’s not forget that we create a mood not only for ourselves, but also for others,” says the Mayor of the Valentinas Tamulis district.
The decoration of the Great Market Square will also be updated. This is necessary because it should better respond to the spirit of the old town.
A more subtle shape and size of decoration will be chosen more appropriate for the street leading to the Christmas tree.
This year, the garlands on Česlovas Milošas street, which are also completely incompatible with anything blue, have been resolutely abandoned. The chestnuts thrown on this street will be decorated with white garlands.
The “Alas” decorations will be illuminated on J. Basanavičiaus and Tilto streets. All of this will fit more closely together and create a more unified rather than segmented view of the entire old town, the square and the surrounding streets.
