“This year, people start creating a festive atmosphere in their homes much earlier. Quarantine and the limitations associated with it are likely to inspire many to seek creative solutions. Creating an Advent wreath can become a great relaxation and even inspire optimism. After all, the lit candles in an Advent wreath symbolize the coming out of darkness into light, ”says the florist and shares helpful tips.

Natural materials are used

The Advent wreath should reflect serenity and concentration, so it is recommended to use natural materials, earth colors, avoid glitters and other bright elements to weave it.

The base of the crown must be cared for first. It is usually made of straw or hay. If you want a faster result, you can buy such a crown base in many supermarkets. With a base, it is already possible to start weaving, from spruce, pine, spruce or other evergreen twigs. They are placed in a clockwise direction and fastened with green wire or strong thread. The base of the straw should be twisted as much as possible with twigs, thus obtaining a more fluffy and decorative image.

The braided crown can now be decorated. Dried plants: pine cones, moss branches, bark, leaves, acorns are perfect for this. You can diversify the crown by decorating it with cinnamon, orange, lemon slices, anise, lotus flower, red berries, etc.

Erika says that florists generally follow world trends when creating Advent wreaths. As it is popular this year to use painted plants in various floristic compositions, some of these vaguely colored ones can also be used in an Advent wreath. For example, a florist uses stained leaves of poppy, plimosa, and eucalyptus to decorate its wreath and diversifies it with cotton blossoms, a hazelnut branch, and a lotus. The branches are attached to the crown with wire staples. They are easy to make by cutting and halving the pieces of wire.

Candle arrangement

If you are creating a classic Advent wreath, you should also incorporate four candles to mark the four Sundays of Advent. Three purple candles and one pink are used. They symbolize the exit from darkness to light. On the first Sunday of Advent the candle of the Prophets is lit, which symbolizes hope, on the second Sunday the candle of Bethlehem, which recalls the light and salvation of Bethlehem, on the third Sunday the pink candle of the Shepherds, and the fourth, the candle of the angels.

It is not necessary to prick the candles in the crown itself, they can appear in its cavity or in the chandeliers arranged outside. Florist Erika composes candles on the wreath itself. She makes candle legs out of bamboo skewers. They are fastened with tape and wrapped with decorative tape. Most importantly, the crowned candles used create an overall harmonious image.
