“So far, the government is acting relatively responsibly, except for a few nuances, and I strongly support those responsible actions. Well, of course, it is always difficult not to give in to political populism, especially before the elections, but I hope that part of the professionals who are in the Government understand the scope of their responsibility,

He warned that the economic “pandemic” was just beginning.

“The economic pandemic that is beginning will manifest itself in all its beauty and blow, apparently later this year and early next year … Here, perhaps, it will require intelligence and courage, and ultimately the ability to reject some proposals, which now appear as mushrooms after the rain, which are not intentional and specific and even, I would say, irresponsible, “said the outgoing president.

“The shock is probably not less than what we saw during the 2008-2009 crisis, only, of course, it will be completely different,” said D. Grybauskaitė.

According to her, in the context of reducing shadows, it is necessary to talk not only about the business or its willingness to be transparent. The participation of both society and government is needed.

“Because the temptation of that shadow arises very frequently, especially when there is an opportunity or reason to borrow, share, and even make it to the elections. Really, that responsibility will be not only for businesses, but also for the state, for each person and, of course, the government, “said the former president.

Together, he thanked the companies for their initiatives during the crisis.

“Therefore, I really want everyone to evaluate their actions carefully and responsibly, and I thank the business simply for the fact that the beginning of the pandemic showed that the business remains responsible, sacrificing itself even in such difficult times (.. .) “said D Grybauskaite.

On Monday, the ninth annual campaign began in Lithuania to draw attention to the damage caused to the state and population by the shadow economy.

According to campaign organizers, to guard against the spread of the virus this year, the cash was not accepted at many outlets, which will likely reduce some of the shadow, at least for a short time. However, the loss of part of the planned income due to the pandemic may lead to a desire to avoid paying part of the taxes to the state.

The campaign “There is no place for a shadow in this country” is organized by the association “Investors’ Forum” and the transparent business initiative “White Wave”.
