The fourth stage of this season’s 3×3 world round will end this Saturday in Doha (Qatar), in which the Utena Juventus-Uniclub team also participated in the most important matches.
Successfully appeared in the group stage and in the quarterfinals in the semi-finals of Utena 13:21 landed for basketball players from Riga (Latvia).
The semi-finals started with a draw and at the beginning the score was 4: 4. However, then Riga rushed in and after the first three minutes they already had a 4-point lead (9: 5).
For some time, “Riga” had a 5-point lead, but the Latvians attacked more successfully and 5 minutes after the start of the match they were already leading by 7 points (16: 9).
The Latvians soon hit an important long shot (18:10), but Juventus-Uniclub also responded with a 2-point shot. However, Utena’s team failed to reduce the delay further and after several successful forays from Riga, they had to recognize their advantage.
I.Vaitkus scored 6 points for the Juventus-Uniclub team in the semifinals, V.Šulskis added 3, G.Matulis and Ž.Skučas added 2.
Riga will face Serbian team Liman in the final.
Juventus-Uniclub and Šakiai Vytis-Gulbelė have already secured a place in the final stage of the season, which will take place from December 18 to 19. provided in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).
In the quarterfinals, Juventus-Uniclub did not have great resistance and 21: 8 crushed Qatar’s Lusail team.
Ž.Skučas started the match with an accurate long shot, and soon Utena’s team scored two more points and after the first minute they were already leading 4: 1.
In the next minute and a half, Utena’s team hit two more long shots, while Lusail’s team responded with just 2 points and Juventus-Uniclub was already ahead 8: 3.
Although Lusail later managed to reduce the accumulation, Utena’s team, led by Ž. Skučas quickly regained a solid lead (15: 7).
When Juventus-Uniclub had only 2 points before the victory (19: 8), Lusail no longer tried to defend and Ž.Skučas finished the match with a precise long shot.
Ž.Skučas added 11 points to the victory, I.Vaitkus – 8 and G.Matulis – 2.
