The legendary actor has suffered from cancer for several years. In the past, R. Adomaitis has been actively involved in various film and theater projects, but lately he has been spending time at home.

R. Adomaitis states that due to complicated operations his legs hurt. Also, the age is not the same, he is 83 years old.

“Old age has come, you will not run away from it. But youth and all my life are bright, I cannot complain. And old age is not joy. It is here, it hurts there. And the further away, the more often. But nobody he was able to protect himself from this, “the famous actor admitted to the Russian portal with a smile.

“Man – oncology. In particular, I do not want to talk about this issue. At first I was treated, several surgeries were performed with us in Vilnius. But now I am tired and I threw this thing away. I will live as long as the Lord allows me. I am optimistic, I live on this day, ”said R. Adomaitis.

According to him, he lives on the actor’s pension, in addition, his youngest son Mindaugas helps him at home and goes for a walk with his sick father. The son is married but meets his wife on weekends: they go to the village where they have a farm.

“During the work week, Mindaugas is with me. I hope he comes back from work to have dinner together. By the way, I can cook deliciously. I’ve been called a cook for a while, not an actor,” joked R. Adomaitis.

He admits that he did not recover after the death of his beloved wife. Actress and singer Eugenija Bajorytė died in 2011 from hepatitis. The two oldest children live abroad: the middle Gediminas has been living in London with his family for a long time, and the oldest has lived in the US for a long time, but is currently returning to Vilnius due to the pandemic of coronavirus, working in the IT field.

I’ve been talking about myself for a while

The fact that the legend of theater and cinema is in good health, sadly, he can not boast Delphi Adomaitis himself admitted in February this year, granting an open interview.

The actor was diagnosed with cancer more than a decade ago, but after trying many different treatments, he finally cut and left everything to fate. As we know from his previous conversations with journalists, he is no longer being treated and does not even have to see a doctor, as he will be, yes.

One can only wonder how a person who says as calmly as possible that he feels much worse than a year ago and knows that there will certainly be nothing better does not seem upset or broken at all.

If he could, R. Adomaitis would be in the theater even today; his love of the stage has really gone nowhere. But the time has come to acknowledge reality, the time to say goodbye. At first, as an artist and, finally, even as a spectator.

“If I could go, of course I would. But since it’s hard for me to walk, I don’t go that much anymore. His legs don’t take me anywhere anymore, and at the same time to the theater,” he shrugged.

And there were times when, not wanting to disappoint viewers, he made seemingly crazy decisions, risking his health.

“I remember that where the Palace of the Rulers is now, excavations were once carried out, ruins were thrown, and we played J. Marcinkevičius’ Mažvydas” – Irena Bučienė was a director and she thought so. It was incredibly hot and we, dressed in all kinds of furs, needed to climb those ruins. And maybe because of that tension, maybe because of the heat, the retina of the eye began to bounce, as if a ray appeared in my eyes. Banionis (actor Donatas Banionis – editor’s note), to whom this had happened before, gave the phone to the ophthalmologist and told him to go see her quickly. I went and she tells me: go now you will lie on the bed and we will treat you. Like, I ask, after all, for me, the performance tonight and ten days ahead. I can’t lie down, “recalled R. Adomaitis.

“I used to go to the clinics after the performance, I did something for my eyes there, I was blindfolded and I was blindfolded until morning, and then I took to the performance again the next day, I reflect, then he takes me to the clinics again, does something again and puts him to bed at night, ”she said.

Wasn’t it scary that taking that risk could leave you completely blind? “It just came to our attention then. After all, tickets are on sale, people are waiting, everyone is ready to go see the show,” he explained his decision, saying that if he ever went to bed in A patient’s bed was only agreed with the theater directors beforehand so that the audience could be informed in time. And playing with a fever or another illness, he said, is nothing new for the actors.

Only now the actor no longer has any illusions of returning to the stage. A year ago, he was still considering the small role in film that was being offered to him, but it turns out that his own creators eventually abandoned the idea, deciding that it would be wrong if he with cancer had to drown in cold water under the stage.

“I left it, although I completely liked the script. And now what role would I take on? That I feel even worse than a year ago and I know that there will be nothing better,” he said calmly, regretting more that even the books no longer know. They were able to read due to poor eyesight.

“It’s like. I already talk about myself in the past, as a person who has almost left this life, and here you will do nothing,” he smiled warmly.
