“If there is a vacancy, we would give the mandate to the next candidate in line, the first one behind the line, it would be Asta Kubilienė,” said L. Matjošaitytė.

On Thursday, R. arbauskis, the head of the “Peasants”, announced that he was resigning the mandate of a member of the Seimas, protesting against the actions of the new government in the distribution of positions in parliament.

“As I understand that one of the problems for which the office cannot descend and restore democracy is in my person, I will eliminate this problem so that the ruling majority can descend and allow our faction to function fully in the Seimas. My decision is to leave the Seimas, “R. Karbauskis told reporters Thursday after the faction meeting.

According to R. Karbauskis, after his resignation, negotiations on Seimas posts should start anew and the previously rejected candidacy of “peasant” Aušrinė Norkienė for vice-presidents of the Seimas should be re-submitted.

Asked if there are circumstances why he would change his decision to resign, R. Karbauskis stated that he would do so if the rulers asked to remain in the Seimas.

Members of the “campesinos” group who attended the press conference agreed with laughter.

“A circumstance could change if the majority of the Seimas asked me not to do it. I will ask the CEC on Tuesday with a statement, they have until Tuesday if they want me to stay at the Seimas, but everyone here is laughing and I can laugh, ”said R. Karbauskis.

This week, the Seimas rejected the candidacy of A. Norkienė, proposed by the “peasants”, approving the deputies of the parliament. All other proposed vice presidents, both the ruler and the opposition, were approved.

After rejecting the candidacy of A.Norkienė, the president of the Seimas V.Čmilytė-Nielsen introduced Julius Sabatauskas, representative of the opposition Social Democrats. During the first meeting Andrius Mazuronis, vice president of the opposition and representative of the “workers”, was elected.

R. Karbauskis was elected a member of the Seimas with the list of the Union of Greens and Peasants of Lithuania. Asta Kubilienė, the former chair of the Seimas Health Affairs Committee, is first on the party’s list after the script.

According to the September Vilmorus survey data, R. Karbauskis obtained a favorable rating of 29.2 percent. of those surveyed, unfavorably: 50.4 percent.
