“I want to believe that the beheading is over and that normal work will finally begin on behalf of the city,” said the mayor of the city, Nerijus Cesiulis, in a comment sent to BNS.

“I am glad that Deputy Mayor J. Šukevičienė was saved. I invite all council members to forget their grievances, personalities, to focus and create a city where it is good for everyone to live,” he said.

Eleven councilors voted in favor of the impeachment in a secret ballot, two spoke out against it, five ballots were damaged.

More than half: it took 14 votes to remove the deputy mayor.

The Alytus City Council began its ninth morning meeting remotely on Thursday, but a secret ballot required a visit to the municipality.

In early November, ten council members expressed mistrust in J.Šukevičienė regarding “inaction and inadequate problem solving”.

These are the former mayor Česlovas Daugėla, the representatives of his public committee Vilma Krušnienė and Gintautas Andriuškevičius, the representatives of the “citizens of Alytus” Valė Gibienė, Vilija Ramanauskienė and Vytautas Jastremskas, the “peasants” Dmitrijus Kačiuras, as well as the Valdas and Valdas “peasants” Dmitrijus Kačiuras and Valdas.

They criticized the deputy mayor for the “destabilizing” reorganization of education, the faulty budget allocation, the inadequate organization of repairs at the Vidzgiris Basic School, in violation of the law, a contest for the position of director of the Sports Center and Medical Rehabilitation.

The same ten council members tried to abolish the two advisory posts to the mayor, currently Agnė Čeplinskienė and Aurelijus Jaruševičius work as advisers.
