It is emphasized that Vilnius residents should use potassium iodide tablets only in the event of a nuclear accident in a neighboring country and only if the competent state authorities provide such recommendations.

Earlier it was announced that in the event of an accident at the Astrava nuclear power plant releasing radioactive materials into the environment, the Lithuanian authorities would immediately inform the population through audible sirens, short warning messages to mobile phones and radio, television and others. media.

In the event of such an emergency, it is recommended to close the room and wait for reports from public authorities on what actions and measures to take to reduce the risk. At this stage, the population would also be informed about the need to take potassium iodide tablets.

In the event of a nuclear accident, the evacuation of the population takes place within a radius of 30 kilometers from the reactor.

According to the Municipality of Vilnius, since the country’s capital is larger (45 kilometers) from Astrava, in the event of an accident, Vilnius residents must first stay home, go out, follow the information on radio and television and wait further instructions: if taking pills, wear respiratory protection. , evacuate.
