Prime Minister candidate I. Šimonytė pointed out that there is no final agreement with the president on these nominations. I. Šimonytė did not name the only candidacy for the Ministry of Agriculture.

“We have discussed the candidacies that I would like to present to the president if I were ordered to form a government. {…} Will those surnames be given with certainty? Then we will know only when the president instructs me to form a government,” I. Šimonytė said after of the meeting with the president.

“Today, I. Šimonytė presented the president with a full list of candidates for minister. The president will meet with the candidates shortly to express an opinion on whether one or the other candidate is suitable for the position.

According to the president, the first task of the new government is to control the spread of the coronavirus and its impact on the economy and the labor market. {…} Tomorrow, the president will present the prime minister’s candidacy to the Seimas for consideration, “said Povilas Mačiulis, head of the Internal Policy Group, after the meeting.

A. Dulkis proposes to the Ministers of Health

The nomination of former Auditor General Arūnas Dulkis is proposed to the Ministers of Health. It has been mentioned in the last few days and informally and has received much discussion. This portfolio is currently one of the most important due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“For the Ministry of Health, my choice has to do with the current situation, but also with systemic problems in health care.

I think that Arūnas Dulkys has accumulated good experience as Auditor General, good knowledge about the problems of the systems {…} In my opinion, the Minister of Health does not need or does not need to be able to prescribe drugs, operate or diagnose diseases. You need a good understanding of the system and its problems. Based on that systemic approach, simply propose solutions that improve the availability and quality of services ”, said I. Šimonytė after the meeting with the President.

According to I. Šimonytė, the fact that the President has not appointed A. Dulkis as State Comptroller for the second term is his choice.

Coordination has taken time, so the head of the Ministry of Agriculture has not yet been proposed

The coordination of the candidates took time, because before I. Šimonytė had the intention to announce the names of the ministers before the first session of the Seimas, which took place last Friday.

“Today I will not name the position of head of the Ministry of Agriculture, because the coordination took a while. Today, this is the only candidacy that I cannot name, ”said I. Šimonytė.

Asked about the candidacy of S. Gentvilas, I. Šimonytė stated that it is normal to have doubts.

“It is normal to have several doubts, especially since I really do not live in a vacuum. I have received several calls from communities concerned about the environment, both from those who support Mr. Gentville’s candidacy and from those who have comments on the matter. I think this is a matter of further discussions and planning of the work, together with the president of the country, “said I. Šimonytė, noting that S. Gentvilas should be given time to show how much he cares about the environment and the problems in this area.

“I think that Gintarė Skaistė, who is a doctor in economics, really knows enough about finance to be able to work in the Ministry of Finance. He was a member of the Social Affairs Committee, a member of the Budget and Finance Committee, he worked in the municipality of the city of Kaunas. I have absolutely no doubts about Amber’s competence, responsibility and ability to take all the challenges we face very seriously and consistently, and my responsibility will be to help one or another minister who wants my support or advice. No I would present such candidacies, whose ability I would doubt myself, “added I. Šimonytė.

To the Ministers of Foreign Affairs – Gabriel Landsbergis

Gabriel Landsbergis is nominated for the Ministers of Foreign Affairs. When asked if candidates with a lot of diplomatic experience had been applying for these positions for many years, I. Šimonytė stated that there were all kinds of experiences.

“My proposal for such a solution really has good reason. We actually have a lot of people in our community who could run for the office of chancellor.

But for that, there is a period of formation of governments and committees so that people’s abilities are exploited where they can best be exploited.

G. Landsbergis is the chairman of the family of the European People’s Party, one of the parties, I think this is a very important factor that could further enrich our foreign policy with the ties we have through the family of the party to which we belong, “said I. Šimonytė.

According to the Constitution, the President, with the approval of the Seimas, appoints the Prime Minister and instructs him to form the Government and approve its composition.

According to I. Šimonytė, the officially proposed cabinet of ministers could be presented to the president next week at the earliest. I. Šimonytė’s candidacy for prime minister will be presented to the Seimas on Thursday.
