Šimonytė assured Dulkis of success in controlling Covid-19: he was my first choice

On Wednesday, Prime Minister candidate Ingrida Šimonytė presented possible ministerial nominations for President Gitan Nausėda to all ministries except Agriculture. At present, it is proposed that the Ministry of Health entrust the leadership to former Auditor General Arūnas Dulkis.

The president has several requirements for the new minister

After the meeting with I. Šimonyte, the President stated that the new Minister of Health intends to pose serious challenges, and managing the Covid-19 pandemic should be the most important job of the Minister.

“I will first raise the requirements for professional experience, crisis management skills and organization of complicated processes to the Minister of Health,” said G. Nausėda.

However, I. Šimonytė has no doubt that A. Dulkys not only has all the qualities listed, but also more qualities that would help lead an important ministry during the crisis.

“We need to have more in mind, so I probably appreciate the competence of A. Dulkis more. This is the ability to systematically look at the public sector,” I. Šimonytė told the BNS news agency on Wednesday.

He does not agree that ministries should be headed by experts in those areas, such as doctors, teachers or farmers. According to the candidate for prime minister, the most important thing is an excellent knowledge of the public sector.

“When we talk about the public sector, these problems are much deeper than professional experience dictates as a 100% possibility of solution.

I think that the State Audit Office is the place that, after auditing its activities and systematic approach to education, health and social security, revealed many things that could help us to have a better quality of public services ” noted I. Šimonytė.

Not Plan B, but the first option

I. Šimonytė would like the health system to pay more attention to the needs of patients than to absorbing investments.

“It seems to me that we should take a look at who will get a gamma knife or some other very expensive device from next year’s investment program, deploy and see the people who need those health services,” said the politician.

And it is A. Dulkys, according to I. Šimonytė, who has the skills to help solve not only systemic problems, but also to manage the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I think he has skills that are very important in this situation. It is the ability to speak, listen to people, use experts where you do not have deep knowledge yourself. It is a joke that this is only part of the problems to be solved, ”said I. Šimonytė.

The candidate for prime minister admits that he has prepared reserve candidates if the former do not please the president. But first you would like to hear arguments about why one or the other candidates are not suitable.

“We really do have those candidates who could fill this position one way or another. But why doesn’t it occur to you that maybe it was my choice from the beginning when it wasn’t clear what the election results would be? There is no choice. here, here was my first choice and I have reasons for that choice “, – assured I. Šimonytė.

Arūnas Dulkys

This year, G. Nausėda did not extend the leadership of A. Dulkis to the State Audit Office for a second term. A. Dulkys has been the head of the State Audit Office since 2015.

Does not condemn G. Skaistė

Ingrida Šimonytė, who informally offers Gintarė Skaistė to the Minister of Finance, does not condemn her for past mistakes: driving while intoxicated.

I. Šimonytė says that he appreciates that G. Skaistė herself has reminded him of the violated law and believes that conscience punishes better than public condemnation.
