“There were negotiations, and one of the results of the negotiations is that it is probably not the Freedom Party that will nominate a candidate for education ministers,” V. Mitalas told reporters at Seimas on Tuesday.
According to him, possible ministerial candidates will be announced a little later by Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė.
“The future prime minister will say exactly how matters are arranged there. I understand that perhaps even today a certain veil of secrecy is unfolding,” said parliament.
He also said that he would probably be “the vice president of the Seimas most interested in education.”
“The negotiations are negotiations, in the first place, we feel that we have gained a lot that the coalition agreement has been signed as it was,” Mitalas emphasized.
“The situation is really good and there was no disagreement in principle about the coalition’s work program or the educational work itself,” said a Freedom Group spokesman.
He also confirmed that the Freedom Faction will likely delegate to the chairman of the Seimas Education Committee.
ELTA recalls that A. Armonaitė had spoken about V. Mitalas and the former rector of Vilnius University Vytautas Žukauskas as possible candidates for the post of Minister of Education, Science and Sports. A little later, the Freedom Faction announced that it would nominate V. Mitalas for Vice Presidents of the Seimas.
