“The man was successfully reached, taken off the ship and handed over to the doctors. He is alive, conscious and has suffered many injuries,” said the head of the Situation Coordination Division of the Fire Protection and Rescue Department (PAGD) of the BNS, specialist Saulius Žilinskas.

According to him, it is difficult to say from what height the welder working on the ship may have fallen, but the lifting operation was complicated.

“It was achieved quite quickly, there was no danger to life, but the lifting operation was complicated,” said S. Žilinskas, representative of PAGD.

Dovilė Ringis, a representative of the Klaipėda Port Authority, informed BNS that the incident took place on a ship under repair at the Western Shipyard.

The Western Shipyard reported Monday night that an employee of a group of subcontractors was injured in the accident, and the circumstances of the incident will be clarified after an investigation.

Klaipeda firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene. It took about an hour to get through various openings to reach and deliver the disaster to medics.
