According to the president, the tools and equipment needed to handle the COVID-19 pandemic must be managed very efficiently. At the president’s initiative, the Emergency Operations Management Center currently employs a logistics expert delegated by the Ministry of National Defense to help coordinate the implementation of the pandemic management measures and their distribution in Lithuania, according to a statement. press.

The president requested detailed information on the state reserve of medical devices and equipment for Friday, as well as data on the forecast of the need for such devices, their planned and ongoing purchases and the expected deadlines for their receipt.

Peak can be reached in one week – two

Simonas Krėpšta, senior adviser to the president and head of the Economic and Social Policy Group, said after a meeting with experts that the rise in infections had adjusted the forecasts in a negative direction, but claimed that if the quarantine conditions are met, the peak could be reached in seven to fourteen days.

“It is clear that the increase in infections last weekend adjusted the forecasts in a negative direction. Certain peaks are visible on the horizon, it is likely that if the quarantine conditions remain effective, they will be observed, it is possible that the peak will be reached in 7-14 days ”, said S. Krėpšta.

The data management expert who participated in the press conference was dr. Vaidotas Zemlys-Balevičius stated that the epidemic situation is still not improving. According to projected scenarios, the peak will be on November 27, and then, if quarantine measures are effective, the decline in cases will begin.

Experts have suggested further monitoring of the new indicator, which shows how well the country is handling the pandemic. That indicator shows how much an infected person infects other people.

If the situation is not under control, that indicator is 2.5 -3.5. It is currently 1.37 due to current measures. When it falls below unity, then it will show that the epidemic is fading, the expert said.

“It is very difficult to predict how long the quarantine will last, it also depends a lot on society. (…) We will be able to talk about the end of the quarantine when we see a decrease in cases, and that number of reproducers will fall below one ”, said V. Zemlys-Balevičius.

Provided recommendations on the data.

The experts discussed the data on COVID-19. Dr. V. Zemlys-Balevičius stated that although the available data are inaccurate, they show a true picture of how the epidemic is spreading.

The experts made recommendations on the data to be published:

– that they are open and freely accessible and that they are published at the appointed time each day;
– that there is a source from which everyone can obtain them and that there is no debate about what data they really are. Now, for example, it has been observed that in some sources that number differs slightly, and this misleads the public
– the introduction of automatic data checks to avoid frustrating errors when some hospitals fail to provide data or report incorrect patient numbers.

Prepare recommendations for the test strategy

According to the presidential adviser, the experts met with representatives of the Ministry of Health. Their response to the treatment facilities received a positive response.

“Some of the recommendations are already being implemented, some are already on the way, they have been agreed, the other party has had a positive approach to SAM and they are expected to be implemented soon,” said S. Krėpšta.

According to the president’s adviser, experts should offer recommendations on the testing and optimization strategy of their system in Lithuania next week.
