Skvernel disagrees with Veryga: it’s too early to talk about extending the quarantine

Earlier, Health Minister Aurelius Veryga said that three weeks of quarantine is not enough. However, S. Skvernel argues that it is too early to draw such conclusions.

“The government has not yet considered extending the quarantine. The question is early. If the situation changes, those changes will be addressed. We will react to positive changes if the situation improves, and we will react to negative changes if the situation worsens or does not change.” S. Skvernelis told reporters Wednesday.

For his part, A. Veryga has said that he has no doubts that the quarantine will be extended to three weeks. He said that the chances of the situation getting worse and better are the same, so the scenario that all students move to distance education if the situation worsens is not ruled out.

According to the minister, only at the beginning of next week will the first evaluations of the operation of the new quarantine measures be available.

“We hope that there will be no more exponential growth. Not if there were those doubles, but not in a week, but in two weeks, it would already be a true result, showing that the quarantine is already beginning to work,” said A. Veryga.

He said he doesn’t see the possibility of the quarantine being lifted in three weeks, even if the situation improves.

“Only to the extent that the government reviews the measures every week, even with minimal adjustments, does life show that there is something good and something that cannot be thought about. (…) In three weeks, the Government will return to deliberations in any case, and I have little doubt that it will extend the quarantine. It’s just a question of what the conditions will be, “said A. Veryga at Seimas.

The quarantine has been introduced in Lithuania for three weeks starting on November 7. It will run until November 29 inclusive.
