News of the death of Mikhail Zhvanecki, 87, a famous Russian satirist, broke on Friday. On that occasion, the mayor of Klaipeda shared with his friends on the Facebook account memorable shots of his stay in the famous humorous city – Odessa.

Klaipeda and Odessa are partner cities.

When the mayor of Klaipėda, V. Grubliauskas, and his wife Inga visited Odessa a few years ago, they asked the mayor of this city and the honorary consul of Lithuania, who resides in this city, to organize an opportunity to meet the famous resident of Odessa M.Žvaneckis.

When such a meeting was organized, it was more reminiscent of an improvisation: sincere, simple, warm.

We immediately felt that we were soul mate people and we quickly found a common language.

“M. Žvaneckis had heard about me as mayor that I was a little musician, I had a track to show what I was learning. I had a trumpet with me, alone in the park, playing a song. Then I remembered two things for the rest of me life: one, when such a person took off his hat and was a big thank you, and the other, after about half an hour of communication, I could experience that he was a very deep personality. It is a treasure of wisdom, presented in a form of very thoughtful and convincing humor. It is unfortunate that the younger generation, who do not speak Russian, do not remember or know his work, but middle-aged and older people know the depth of his thinking. Let’s not forget his way and way of telling stories distinctive, unique, sarcastic and contagious – all of this became the basis for being deservedly included in the ranks of the world’s best comedians, ”shared the mayor of Klaipėda.

V. Grubliauskas opened up that being very famous, M.Žvaneckis was an extremely nice and charming person to communicate with.

The mayor of Odessa, speaking with the head of Klaipėda, said that the humorist, who had become the pride of the city, was in no hurry to sincerely communicate with all people at once, he had intuitive selection criteria that only he knew. Especially in the last years of his life, he was no longer in a rush to shake hands and sit at a table to talk.

“We immediately felt that we were soulmates and quickly found a common language. That half hour of our communication left me a memory for a lifetime. It is a gift of fate. Seeing the world and being able to present its imperfections with a perfect form of humor, M. Žvaneckis was a genius in this field. I think he did not take his hat off against me, but near Klaipeda, and this is a great appreciation of our city, ”said the mayor of Klaipeda.

M.Žvaneckis was a satirist and performer of his literary works, screenwriter, television presenter, actor. Žvaneckis was a Ukrainian folk artist, winner of the independent triumph “Triumph” and president of the Odessa World Citizens Club.
