Professor Kasiulevičius: we can see more and more clearly how this virus differs from others

Professor Delfi explained in the talk “A conversation with Daiva Žeimyte-Biliene” that the latest major scientific publications (the aforementioned Lancet publication – “Delfi”) mention measures to control the virus, which are related to the reduction of human mobility .

At the same time, V. Kasiulevičius noticed a change in people’s behavior compared to the spring period.

“If our mobility has fallen drastically in the struggle and we have spent a lot of time at home, now everything has returned to the level of January, people do not pay much attention to whether the measures are in force,” said the interlocutor.

He agreed that people could not completely avoid mobility because in part it was about work.

“We have to be working to create a national product, and the state does not bankrupt, so that the state can ensure various functions, the provision of various public sector services, pay benefits, pensions. Work is inevitable “, agreed V. Kasiulevičius.

However, according to him, meetings that take place after work are avoidable.

“Scientists count for a lot: out of six people, the risk is already increasing, more than ten people even more. It would help to avoid such gatherings wherever they are, especially where they are held without masks, where people eat, drink alcohol, when people meet at home, ”said V. Kasiulevičius.

According to the professor, the infection spreads in such gatherings.

“Because at least thirty percent of the people infected with this infection are almost asymptomatic and they spread the virus very well. The virus is characterized by the fact that even before the appearance of symptoms, even those who will have symptoms, it is already spreading two days before the appearance of symptoms. There are data that, even before.

The virus also spreads very intensely during the first few days. As long as a person realizes that they are sick, they are already infecting other people. Then when you get sick, you actually infect very little to others. This is a big problem because it is very difficult for us to track it. And it is possible that the guests who came to you and you had a great evening had a great time. They said they were not sick, and tomorrow they were already sick, and it is possible that you were already infected with them, “commented V. Kasiulevičius.

The doctor urged people to avoid meetings as much as possible during those three weeks of quarantine.

“Especially in closed spaces, but even in open spaces, if those meetings are very close, there is a risk. Let’s stay further apart. That doesn’t mean we don’t have to move. I think being in a park, in the woods, or on a trip where you travel by car alone with your family (nothing bad). You can even stay in a hotel, but you should not use the rooms where people gather, I mean restaurants, museums, theaters. This would help control in a modern way, perhaps without restricting freedoms too much. This is how the virus chains that spread from one household to another are broken, ”said V. Kasiulevičius.

Health system preparedness was assessed as insufficient

The researcher who participated in the expert working groups of both the Government and the President stated that the situation in Lithuania is currently difficult.

“We see the need to make radical decisions. There are some things that are very clear, the preparation of the health system is insufficient. We see a lack of communication between the main health institutions and the subordinate municipal institutions,” said V. Kasiulevičius.

He noted that the number of patients is increasing and the need for large reserve beds. In the Vilnius region alone, at least 500 beds are needed to manage this situation for the next two weeks.

“Solutions are needed that are coordinated at the government level,” said V. Kasiulevičius.

At the same time, he noted the importance of stabilizing the situation to such a level that contacts can be traced again, strengthening the capacity of the National Center for Public Health (NVSC), the possibility of effective solutions to accelerate vaccination as soon as vaccines are available.

Sejonienė – on priorities if she becomes a minister

Jurgita Sejonienė, a member of the Lithuanian Medical Movement elected to the Seimas with the list of the National Union-Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party, admitted on the show that she was considering a proposal to become Minister of Health.

She identified the motivation of workers in the healthcare system as her top priority and said she would look for ways to find money to motivate them financially for their work in managing the pandemic.

“I really don’t understand why the supplement payment was related to the length of the quarantine. The work has been ongoing since March and continues to this day. Our healthcare system will be only as good as the employees are satisfied, ”said J. Sejonienė.

After becoming a minister, she would begin by clarifying the situation: the possibilities of health institutions and the ministry. J. Sejonienė said that he would seek to ensure the proper operation of NVSC and the operation of the 1808 line.

Among the objectives, he mentioned the importance of communication to the public. According to J. Sejonienė, an intensive campaign should now be launched to explain to people the benefits of vaccination.
