A. Veryga points out that some hospitals in the Vilnius region have already been forced to interrupt scheduled services.

Scheduled services are declining

“It just came to our notice then. Where the beds are rearranged into jeans, in the same Vilnius clinical hospital, ordinary patients are no longer receiving treatment, cowardly patients are being treated there,” A. Veryga told reporters on Friday .

„[Planinės paslaugos] they are not artificially restricted or stopped in any way, but simply reduced, where the institution is reorganized and provides assistance to combat patients, ”added the Minister.

According to the minister, if Vilnius hospitals reach that limit when they will no longer be able to receive patients, help will be requested from other hospitals in the surrounding area.

“But there is not a single hospital in Vilnius that can and should reorient services, at least part of its units or departments, and services will have to be provided to combat patients.

Of course, this is a very serious signal for the institutions to work with all partners, with the institutions, ensuring that the need that patients will need as their number increases is prepared and secured, ”noted A. Veryga.

As a last resort, foreign aid

It is true that the Minister assures that Lithuania has not yet reached such a level of hospital workload that it must request foreign aid.

“We are still far from asking other countries for help, although such a scenario should not be completely ruled out. Lithuania could request such assistance through the general assistance mechanism, but at present such a need does not yet exist. We have several treatment facilities of our own, none of which are used to treat patients with difficulties. We have a place to transform the system, ”said A. Veryga.
