“Currently about 200 soldiers and employees suffer from COVID-19 disease,” the Lithuanian Armed Forces wrote to BNS on Thursday.

According to her, the infected people had no symptoms or had a mild form.

According to the Lithuanian Armed Forces, patients are isolated in military units or in the Soldiers’ Rehabilitation Center in Druskininkai, or are treated at home.

Among other things, the Lithuanian Armed Forces declare that there are no exceptionally large chimneys in military units.

On Thursday, Laimis Bratikas, representative of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, informed BNS that the number of soldiers in self-isolation was not disclosed.

“We believe that the number of people in self-isolation in our institution is not fundamental, because soldiers who have had contact with a person who has been identified or ill, live in barracks, continue their service and carry out tasks,” said Bratik.

“Their contacts are simply being checked and the service is organizing itself by changing communication between individual units,” added an army spokesman.

A week ago, there were more than 600 soldiers and workers in self-isolation.

The Lithuanian Armed Forces affirm that the situation in the country due to the coronavirus does not change the main task of the Armed Forces – preparing for the armed defense of the country.

About 40 Lithuanian soldiers are helping epidemiologists at the National Center for Public Health to conduct coronavirus case survey procedures and collect data in systems.

Starting Friday, 25 soldiers are expected to help work on the coronavirus hotline in 1808.
