“The inspiration for the idea came from the Scandinavian tradition of lighting a garland, a chandelier or a candle in a window during the Christmas period. Now that we are spending even more time at home in the face of a pandemic, it is critical that the comfort and security that the home provides outweigh the coolness and darkness behind the window. To inspire Lithuanians to bring more light into their homes, we have collaborated with the residential community, whose IKEA interior designers have decorated their windows with sparkling Christmas stars and garlands, ”says Kristina Mažeikytė, IKEA Country Marketing Director Baltics.
Almost a hundred apartments in the house called “Delfin”, located at A. Juozapavičiaus str. 3 In Vilnius, even the New Windows will be decorated with more than 400 shining stars and several hundred LED garlands. The same project is taking place in Riga and Tallinn. According to K. Mažeikytė, an important part of the project is the active communities united in the Baltic project.
“In total, up to 48 apartment communities in Lithuania have received applications to participate in the project. It shows that we can come together in the name of a common goal, support each other. This reminder is especially inspiring at this unpredictable time, ”says an IKEA representative.
According to her, it was not easy to choose a building, but the decision was made by the location of the house, taking into account that the largest number of eyes in the city could enjoy the view and, of course, the number of residents of the house itself.
“A Christmas study by IKEA shows that the tradition of decorating a house for Christmas is more than half: 57 percent. – in the homes of residents of the country. This tradition is even more important this year, when it is needed light like never before. The window lamps of the residents of the winning house are the iconic Christmas stars of IKEA. It is not only a decoration that emits a cozy light in the home, but also a decoration that attracts attention from the outside and, most importantly, accessible to many ”, says K. Mažeikytė.

It coincided with the building’s 15th birthday
Jolita Malinauskaitė, the president of the apartment building on the bank of the Neris, says that winning the project selection is also a gift for the residents of the house on the occasion of her 15th birthday. She says that the 44m high house “Delfinu” is so named because its predecessor is the sauna and pool complex “Delfinas”. “The apartment complex has a logo representing a dolphin with a window crown, as the building stands out with its many windows. The logo has even been included in the collection of Aušra Šaltenytė from Vilnius, the owner of the world’s largest dolphin collection, recognized by Guinness World Records ”, says J. Malinauskaitė.
Describing the community of origin, the president says that, living in the very center of Vilnius, the “dolphins” are creative, modern, but at the same time they respect the history of the country, they demand of themselves and their environment, therefore that constantly nourish your home. Therefore, the project idea of decorating your home with illuminated Christmas decorations and at the same time delighting the eyes of passersby was very organically suitable for the residents of the apartment building.
According to her, the cozy starlight in the windows of the neighbors of the house during the Christmas period will remind us: we must be together, unite and complement each other with our strengths, and not forget to enjoy the details of the day to day. The home community is an inspiration for mutual respect and community spirit.
“Living in an apartment building is a great opportunity to appreciate and respect others. People from different countries not only live under one roof, but also agree amicably, not only Lithuania, but also Ukraine, Russia, Sweden, Great Britain, Luxembourg, Romania, Italy, Georgia and others. For example, it has become a tradition to celebrate World Neighbors Day, sometimes for dinner together, etc. ”Says the president of the house.
