She did not want to evaluate Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis’s proposals for universal quarantine, because he was not familiar with what exactly is under the word “quarantine.”
“We know that there is another state that has achieved a reduction in the number of cases with the introduction of a more extensive quarantine. We need to reduce the number of cases to such an extent that we can start tracking them again, ”said I. Šimonytė.
He also stressed that the government should keep going even though it will soon complete its work.
“This is no longer a matter for the government, whether or not it wants to leave some things to the next government, but the responsibility of the people, their health, the health system,” I. Šimonytė said after the coalition candidates meeting ruler in the Seimas.
He spared no criticism of the outgoing government
The leaders of the parties that make up the new ruling majority are critical of the outgoing government’s work in controlling the second wave of COVID-19, ELTA said.
“The best symbol that describes the government’s handling of the second wave (coronavirus – ELTA) is: look, I’m driving with my hands free. After the first crisis (Government – ELTA) he raised his hand and thought he could go down the mountain for sure, that maybe half would catch it. But now it seems that we are flying down the mountain, and the only fear that surrounds us is the increase in the number of trees, that we will not reach some more serious tree. Either by choice or for other reasons … I don’t know why, but I was chosen to do less than it could have been. Conservative President Gabrielius Landsbergis told reporters in the Seimas on Tuesday after the meeting of the negotiating groups on the forming a coalition about less to talk, less to tell, less to reveal.
Aušrinė Armonaitė, the president of the Freedom Party, did not spare any criticism of the Cabinet of Ministers headed by Saulius Skvernelis.
“Municipalities that are already doing something are not consulted, possibly contradictory regulations are issued. Everyone understands that the situation is very serious and that tougher measures will be needed, but it is not necessary to intimidate the public or the municipalities, which must cooperate, ”he said.
For her part, the leader of the Liberal Movement Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen pointed out that, in her opinion, the Government had not applied effective local quarantines.
“A good month ago, the experts spoke about the fact that we need to discuss not a big quarantine, but very efficient small quarantines and chimney management. Unfortunately, it was not as effective as you would have liked. Our expectation is that the decisions taken today will manage that wave more effectively and that an improvement trend begins ”, added the president of the Liberal Movement.
Prime Minister S. Skvernel said Tuesday that the government will decide on Wednesday on the introduction of universal quarantine.
“Tomorrow, the government will be offered to introduce universal quarantine from the end of this week, probably starting at midnight on Saturday. In my opinion, those five municipalities that are in the green zone have run out of universal quarantine, but the ministers have decided otherwise and those five municipalities will also be subject to universal quarantine, ”said S. Skvernelis at a remote press conference on Tuesday.
