“The Council of Health Experts has been very active this weekend, and will continue to do so today, and plans to provide coordinated, evidence-based recommendations by the end of this week,” S. Krėpšta told Knowledge Radio on Tuesday.
According to him, the experience of other countries shows that the virus spreads more indoors, where there are enough people, the premises are poorly ventilated.
“It is even worse if there are sports, singing or other activities in that room that are accelerating the spread of the virus,” said the president’s adviser.
“In other countries, it is planned to focus on the most dangerous areas: these are closed rooms, where it is difficult to avoid meeting people, spaces where people actively spend time. In other countries, such as Switzerland or Ireland, the implementation of such Specific restrictions were directed at the beginning of October, ”added S. Krėpšta.
On Tuesday, the incidence rate of the coronavirus in Lithuania was 100,000. population in the last 14 days amounted to 293.4.
Simonas Krėpšta, Senior Advisor to the President and Head of the Economic and Social Policy Group, identifies three main directions in which the President-initiated Advisory Council of Health Experts will seek to find the most effective measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. He also regrets that the coronavirus is currently spreading exponentially in the country.
“Our council is working in three directions: the first is to quantify what the virus scenarios could be and how to relate those scenarios to the number of patients and beds. Thus, from the virus spread scenario, it is possible to predict how many patients will need treatment (…) The second subgroup will discuss and make recommendations on public health measures, the various limitations that stop the virus (…).
And the third subgroup of this expert council will work on how we can optimize our health system, the hospitals, in the short term. How to connect regional and other hospitals so that we can treat a large enough number of patients and do so effectively, without restricting the provision of other very important health services, ”S. Krėpšta told Knowledge Radio on Tuesday.
He also adds that Lithuania’s advantage in the fight against the pandemic is a sufficient number of hospitals and beds per capita in them.
“In this case, Lithuania has a certain advantage: we really have enough hospital areas and beds per capita. But the question is how to make the best use of all this available infrastructure so that we can provide assistance to COVID-19 patients, whose numbers are sadly increasing, ”he said.
However, S. Krėpšta regrets that the COVID-19 virus is spreading exponentially in the country.
“The so-called basic reproductive number, which shows how much one person infects other people, is currently higher than 1 in Lithuania and reaches 1.5 – 1.6. This means that the virus spreads exponentially. To control the situation, we need to reduce this basic reproductive number to less than 1 so that the pandemic begins to be repressed, ”said the president’s adviser.
