“For at least three weeks. “I think this regime should be much stricter than the current restrictions,” the head of government wrote on his Facebook account on Saturday.
Municipalities in the so-called yellow zone are now subject to individual infection control guidelines. Quarantine is introduced only in municipalities that have entered the red zone.
“We have a rapidly deteriorating COVID-19 situation across Europe. It will be an extremely difficult winter. The increasing number of illnesses and losses is a clear sign that we must take stronger action,” says S. Skvernelis.
He claims to be in constant personal contact with Lithuanian scientists and doctors.
“It just came to our notice then. It looks like we will have to take a break from our normal life in the near future,” says the Prime Minister.
He announced that a group of doctors and scientists convened by the government will meet on Tuesday and will be asked to make concrete proposals for new measures. This will be immediately followed by a COVID-19 Committee meeting, followed by decisions.
“The practice of all European countries (and not only) shows one thing: whatever action has been taken, what strategies have not been followed, there is still one and the same conclusion: only quarantine or vaccination can stop infectious diseases . We still do not have the last, the first option remains ”, says the Head of Government.
“If the results are satisfactory, an extension of the quarantine may not be necessary. It depends on the behavior of all of us,” he added.
Based on epidemiological indicators, the government has identified three zones into which the municipalities are divided: red, yellow and green. The government is now announcing quarantine in municipalities that have now entered the red zone.
Local quarantines have already been announced in 21 municipalities. According to the decision of the Minister of Health, the chief of operations, another 13 municipalities will be included in the red zone as of Monday.
During the last day, a record number of 1001 new cases of COVID-19 were registered in Lithuania.
