“I follow all the instructions, I wear masks, I disinfect my hands. We will go to the cemetery first, and the relatives … Well, this year will be different, we will not go to our relatives ”, says Aleksandras.
Gym students wear masks just because they need to. The obligation to wear masks is outrageous for many, but some agree that if there is no fear of oneself, one should not act selfishly.
“We are not at risk, personally we are not very afraid,” says high school student Odre, adding that if she is not afraid of herself, it does not mean that she will not protect her loved ones. – I will not go with relatives. I think young people are generally behaving quite appropriately, although of course there are a variety of people. “
Diana and Alina say they take the situation seriously; not all family members are scattered across Lithuania, so they don’t have to worry about not visiting anything.
And while pushing the wheelchair, the mother says that in the presence of the virus other needs are too much forgotten. In the hospital, without visits and support from their loved ones, and more than one person in the circle of acquaintances, they were already facing health problems, some even died because they did not receive the medical help they so badly needed.
“Maybe people are more afraid of masks. I’m not particularly interested, but people fear that they won’t be able to go to the doctors. I slept with my little boy in Kaunas for two months, my father can only come for fifteen minutes. You cannot touch the child. There is a great lack of support. But with the little ones, the doctor continues to accept, and when the grandmothers await the reception, a tragedy. So focused on the coronavirus that he no longer looks at other people. There are deaths in my circle of loved ones. I was wondering if we should close again, ”says Irma.
The student-age couple say they plan to spend the long weekend at home and visit loved ones because it is a tradition.
“Let’s go with our relatives, let’s live in the village, what happens here … Why do we have to sit closed when we don’t know any sick people around us?” Says Linas.
It is the Last Days and All Saints that V. Grigaliūnas calls a critical moment. It is not forbidden to honor the dead, to visit the graves, but it is reminded daily that people would suffer and refuse to visit relatives they have seen for a long time, especially the elderly or the sick.
“It just came to our notice then. The evening is coming, so people will move very strongly. Recommendations are given on how to behave, but it is impossible to put it next to each person after the controllers. People have the right to go to the cemetery, but do not go with your relatives. The virus does not spread for days, but for hours, all forms of spread cannot be found and investigated, and people do not always say what to say, either out of fear or for other reasons, I cannot confirm it ”, shares V. Grigaliūnas.
The interlocutor does not hide that if people still meet at work and in public places and follow the rules at least to some extent, they will relax when they return to their personal lives.
“It has been said hundreds of times that the same measures are necessary: masks, respirators to prevent swarms. And responses to research show that the virus spreads more through the connections of loved ones: “we celebrate a birthday”, “baptism”, “we get together to stay.” People go to events and still get mad because they are taking the temperature or when asked how they feel. We can scream until fall, but if people don’t want to listen, they won’t hear, ”says V. Grigaliūnas.
Statistics show that the situation is becoming increasingly difficult to handle. Although it is still not prohibited to visit a hairdresser or other specialist in beauty services, according to V. Grigaliūnas, if the numbers of the virus continue to grow, the scenario that was celebrated in the spring is in danger.
“It just came to our knowledge then. One day we have about 70 cases, the next, already about 90. The geography of the spread of the virus is also changing. In Klaipėda and the region, the virus is spreading in educational institutions, schools builders and sailors are also sick, the virus has been detected in industrial companies, some cafes, among the sick and military, and people in care institutions, – says V. Gigaliūnas. – One of the most sensitive situations in this The moment is at the institution for the care of people with disabilities “Klaipėdos viltis”. There is even a shortage of staff here and people with disabilities cannot be removed. We are currently conducting surveys for residents of the institution, we will monitor them and see how it goes to continue. According to the head of the Klaipėda department (NVSC), the virus spreads most actively where there are sports or active entertainment activities. These are various circles, trainings, art groups. Based on available data, the mean age of patients is 45 to 65 years, but a significant proportion of patients are much younger.
“Of course, the business wants to survive, but in my personal opinion, if the situation does not change, it may be necessary to return much stricter restrictions,” says V. Grigaliūnas.
