The project, published on the Vilnius City Municipality website, was prepared by specialists from the Provida company.

On a 0.4176 hectare site, an installation measuring 34.83 square meters and a height of 12.81 meters should appear.

“The installation is being planned in an existing car park, using two existing car parks and replacing them with an 8-space unit to increase the insufficient number of parking spaces,” explains the explanatory memorandum.

The parking lot would be in the courtyard and would not be visible from the same Avenida Gediminas.

The car storage is expected to have an openwork camo finish. The modernity, quality and contextuality of the materials must also be guaranteed.

“The unit is withdrawn from adjacent buildings at a minimum distance of 10 meters. (…) Part of the installation will be located over the existing underground garage, where the columns and a base plate are designed as an independent review project.

The device colors are expected to be neutral, compatible with the surrounding construction. The trees and other vegetation in the yard are protected and are not damaged by the project, ”the document reads.

“In 1817, the Vilnius City Development Plan provided for a center of St. The construction of Jurgio Street (Gediminas Avenue) began in 1834. In the new city development plan drawn up in 1875, St. Jurgio was the only street in this area built according to the planned project, the best and largest houses were built here.

Until World War I, the 1875 plan was implemented to a greater extent in this part of the city. Avda Gedimino. and Smetonos st. The set of buildings is dominated by post-war and subsequent construction, dominated by the corner building designed by architect Justinas Šeibokas in 1985 ”, says the presentation of the new project.

R. Koreiva, the director of the Lithuanian Cooperative Union, who commissioned the project, said he had seen it in Germany. “Lithuania may not exist (there is no other – Delfi),” he said.

Koreiva said that this car storage is a kind of “pilot model”.

“We will see how it goes, how customers will react, how much it will cost to operate, and then we will decide if we need more.

I understand that technology is a little different from the concept of sustainable urban development, but as long as our wishes do not match our capabilities, we will have that situation.

In sleeping areas, cars don’t fit anywhere, they don’t fit downtown, parking prices have gone up and people still drive, ”he said.

Koreiva said that such “towers” would not be built everywhere. “It just came to our attention then. Some kind of temporary solution. I understand that maybe in 10 or 20 years they will be obsolete, but today they are solving the issue,” he said.

The interlocutor explained that the storage works quite simply: you enter, exit and press a button that lifts the car.

“The bottom of the platform is empty all the time until it fills up,” he said.

Koreiva has not yet been able to reveal the price of the storage.

“How much will it cost? The most important question of the experiment. We have underestimated the price of the foundation, the decoration that must be adapted to the living area,” he explained.

The director of the Lithuanian Cooperative Union expected that the construction of the storage facility would be completed by the end of this year.

According to data from the Real Estate Property Registry, Avda. Gedimino. 28 parcels belong to the Republic of Lithuania and are leased to the Lithuanian Cooperative Union until 2097.
