“As the COVID-19 infection spreads faster and faster in the country every day, we are also seeing a significant increase in the number of cases among our employees. The coronavirus was detected yesterday by eleven Maxima employees who are being cared for at home. Employees who had potentially close contact with colleagues with COVID-19 were isolated. Store facilities and other units where coronavirus-infected workers worked have also been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected internally. We consulted with the National Center for Public Health and we take all recommended preventive actions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 ”, says Ernesta Dapkienė, Director of the Department of Communication and Image of the Maxima retail chain.

Maxima stores and other premises where personnel affected by COVID-19 worked have been completely disinfected. “Today, we meet extremely strict hygiene requirements: shopping carts, baskets and other miscellaneous surfaces are regularly sanitized, and fresh air circulation is increased for store ventilation. Employees are informed of additional recommendations for avoid direct contact and maintain a safe distance. We also encourage our employees to test for COVID-19 for prevention purposes in all municipalities that only organize such tests, “says E. Dapkienė.
Maxima has special coronavirus insurance for its current and future employees. Employees receive the necessary protective equipment: medical masks or safety shields, gloves, hand sanitizing liquids. Temperature is measured daily for Maxima employees. If employees feel unwell, have symptoms of a cold or the flu, they are asked to stay home.
Shoppers are asked to keep a safe distance in stores, remember to wear protective masks, disinfect their hands, and wear free disposable gloves available at the entrance. All Maxima stores have free access to a protective mask. This procedure is valid until November 11. In the municipalities of the country where the quarantine is applied, the flow of buyers to the stores is restricted.
A total of 52 Maxima workers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 infection since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, of whom 24 have fully recovered and returned to work. To date, 895 employees of the Maxima retail chain have been investigated for COVID-19. Currently, 54 employee test responses are still pending.
