Very on the presidential initiative: there should be no overestimation or overemphasis

“It just came to our knowledge then. Because countries like Germany and France, which have full institutes, the Koch, Pasteur institutes, which have been working in these fields for many decades, have not found anything better. We see quarantines being announced in France and Germany, and as long as there are no vaccines (quarantine or movement restrictions and masks), specific measures make it possible to stop the spread of the virus, “A. Veryga told LRT radio on Friday morning.

“Scientists will not think of miracles, beds can be built in hospitals, but there will be no more doctors. These are definitely some miracle solutions, apparently they are not worth (wait – ELTA), “said A. Veryga.

According to the minister, it is unlikely that the government, which will finish its work after the Seimas elections, will find time to work with a group of experts convened by the president.

“It should be understood that no matter how the council is convened, it has no powers. The government makes decisions ”, emphasized A. Veryga.

According to him, the effort to involve another group of experts in the work process in managing the coronavirus crisis can only cost additional time.

“The government has its own mechanism and we have to surrender to several more mechanisms, it is time … We cannot connect to the mechanisms indefinitely, because it takes people out of work and we don’t have to sit, sit, argue. I don’t want to anticipate to no one, but we and the scientists are communicating (…) As I said, do not overestimate (presidential initiative – ELTA), because sometimes people imagine that the scientists gathered will find some miraculous solution ”, said the Minister.

Mr. Nausėda met with healthcare professionals on Thursday, who will form a group of experts on managing the COVID-19 pandemic at the president’s initiative. According to the Presidency, the Council of Health Experts will analyze, evaluate and make recommendations to the responsible authorities to stop the spread of the virus. It will also seek to ensure that the pandemic management plans are implemented effectively through the formation of a new ruling majority and a change in the leadership of the Ministry of Health.

The future government is surprised

Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga wonders why the ruling majority formed by the right rejected the proposed aid: to familiarize himself with the current situation of the health system by a person who will replace him in the ministry.

“It seems that the new ruling majority of us really don’t want to hear anything,” A. Veryga told LRT radio.

“I have made a proposal of this type in public to be able to show, explain, present to a person who will be named or will make it clear (who will be named – ELTA) a certain topic. This was called by the future prime minister an attempt to evade responsibility. So we will not offer under duress. Apparently, people feel like they know they seem to have a good plan or even better than ours. But we’ll see ”, continued the minister, remembering at the same time how difficult it was to hold the position of Minister of Health.

“As I recall, it was difficult for me to get to the position of Minister and not be on COVID-19. This is a really difficult area and it takes a good half year to understand and dig into everything to put together a team. When it has to be done in a situation like this (COVID-19 – ELTA), it will be very difficult ”, said A. Veryga.
