“We can rejoice not only in the fact that we have traditionally held high positions in the life sciences field, but also in the fact that we have achieved a really good result in the field of first-time evaluated humanities. This demonstrates the integrality of the university, the quality of studies and research, and its great potential to establish itself internationally ”, commented the results of VU Rector prof. Rimvydas Petrauskas.

This year, VU is ranked in seven out of 11 areas and has consistently held a high position in the life sciences for several years, ranking 301-400 among the best institutions of higher education in the world, according to the VU report. In the field of arts and humanities, VU ranks for the first time at 401-500, and is not far behind in the health field, where it ranks 501-600.

Also, for the first time, VU rankings are presented in the fields of business and economics and social sciences (more than 601 places) and in the field of informatics (601-800 places). In physical science, VU is ranked 801–1000 this year.

Subject rankings, as outlined in the VU report, are based on 13 carefully prepared performance indicators, which are divided into five areas. The teaching and learning environment, the amount of research conducted based on the scope of the research, income, and reputation are evaluated. The frequency of citation and the internationality of the research prepared according to the number of foreigners working in the institution, studies and research carried out in cooperation with foreign researchers are taken into account. Another evaluation indicator is the quality of knowledge transfer and the added value created by the institution for the country’s economy.

The world university rankings are the only global players that classify universities with high research intensity according to their main missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and internationalization.
