Delphine was recognized by the court in early October as a member of the royal family. Alberto II avoided recognizing his daughter for many years.

The former king (1993-2013) was ordered by a court in 2019 to conduct a DNA test when Delphine unsuccessfully tried to be recognized as a daughter. The test confirmed his biological paternity. Albert denied it for a long time. His extramarital affairs with Baroness Sibylle de Sélys Longchamps were discovered in 1999.

Albert came to the throne in 1993 after the death of his older brother, Baudouin. He reigned until 2013 and then resigned for health reasons. Albert was replaced on the throne by his son Philippe. The monarch and his false sister Delphine also recently met at the royal residence.
