“Yes, we will have more restrictions and less social contacts. Yes, it can be seen that not all restrictions are implemented consistently, for example, when a group of volleyball is prohibited for ten children at a time, but at the same time, thousands can choose between the arenas. But I see that more consistent restrictions will be applied at the end of this week, so I ask everyone to follow these rules responsibly, ”the Mayor encourages city residents.

The municipality, according to him, will also implement all national government decisions aimed at ensuring the safety of Vilnius residents, even if “they are not always consistent; it is important that everyone works together now.”

“We also very much hope that the winning political forces and the future government will be actively involved in managing the situation and will no longer be caught and harmed by the Minister of Health, who had only one responsible job, leaving the NVSC underfunded, administration and, most importantly, people.This is one of the main reasons why the second wave is spreading uncontrollably: NVSC is running out of resources to fight the virus.

Nobody wants the kind of quarantine that was in the spring when everything was closed, so we expect the restrictions to be applied consistently, gradually, according to the data. The vast majority of us are able to work remotely from home, wear masks neatly in public spaces, keep our distance in public catering establishments, not huddle together in public transport or bars. The afternoon is approaching, which this year, like last Easter, may be different. Let’s have less social contacts; we appreciate that we can communicate more safely. I speak from experience, after which I reduced my work contacts to a minimum, ”writes R. Šimašius.

According to the mayor, we have a difficult autumn and winter, but when we see that the COVID-19 virus is spreading rapidly again in Lithuania and throughout Europe, we have to take a break from normal life.

“We don’t have to give up everything, we don’t want cultural institutions, theaters, museums, restaurants or, most importantly, kindergartens and schools to close.” Because behind every activity there are people who work there, let’s help them save jobs. However, before doing any activity, let’s assess whether it is really safe for you and your loved ones, especially the elderly.

One major change is that wearing masks, both indoors and outdoors, is becoming mandatory. Let’s not be afraid to discipline ourselves too, those who wear masks incorrectly and unsafe, hanging them under the chin or covering only their mouths, and those who don’t keep safe distances are at risk. So far only two weeks; Let’s try not to extend the quarantine for a longer period.

If the number of cases of the virus increases, the restrictions may be more stringent, it will cause more inconvenience to everyone, so please, let’s demonstrate the unity of the Vilnius residents, focus, and act responsibly and conscientiously.

Vilnius will continue to fight the virus on two fronts, as we did in the spring: we will promote prevention and help doctors who save the lives of those who are already sick. We will also help citizens understand the limitations of quarantine, we will try to communicate them more clearly than national authorities. We are already updating the content of our website karantinas.lt.

So, the 4 most important things to remember:

  • wear masks indoors and outdoors;
  • maintain a safe social distance;
  • compliance with hygiene rules: let’s wash our hands, ventilate the premises, observe the sneeze label;
  • let’s work remotely as much as possible.

We overcome the first wave, together we overcome the shoulder and the second. This requires the help of all of you; I invite you to listen to my request. Thank you Vilnius residents! “Writes the mayor of the city on his Facebook.
