A. Veryga responded to Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius’s criticism that the intensification of the spread of the virus in the capital is a Ministry fiasco, without looking for a word in his pocket.
“How else can I answer a political question that I would say is quite cynical? This is a municipality that is constantly looking for ways to circumvent the requirements, the recommendations. And then, seeing that the situation is bad, they attack the ministry for supposedly untraceable contacts and other things.
I perfectly remember the statements of the director of administration that nothing should be limited here and that the measures must be applied with great precision. That’s the result of those ‘precision measurements’ now,’ said Ms Veryga.
Requirements don’t work
The minister recalled that he has repeatedly seen with his own eyes how the requirements “work”.
“I have to go to work early in the morning and I saw perfectly well that I was running near discos where people were divided.
It was not and could not be an allusion to the established requirements. The way people behaved there would be strange if the situation in Vilnius had not worsened. This is how we wanted it, so we got it. We wanted more freedom, perhaps, to paraphrase some politicians, more feeling“Now we have more coronavirus,” Veryga said.
The tv3.lt portal recalls that the Minister has stated that the virus is already spreading exponentially in the country.
Will consider new restrictions
As A. Veryga previously reported, on Wednesday a decree will be issued to the Government prohibiting the organization of events in open and closed spaces, as well as prohibiting gatherings, except for high-level sports competitions, which are held without spectators.
These proposals will be made on Wednesday. If they are approved, they will go into effect on Friday, “he said.
According to A. Veryga, the ban on cultural events for the disabled, where tickets are sold electronically, ensures access control and a distance of two meters between spectators.
At the same time, the minister did not rule out the possibility of more municipalities being announced on Wednesday.
“The city of Šiauliai is” on the border. “I do not rule out the possibility that this amendment will also be proposed on Wednesday. Of course, it will not come into force on the same day. But I can say for the sake of interest that of the green zone When the criteria were approved, 15 municipalities entered the yellow zone, actually there are 5 municipalities in the green zone and they are Tauragė, Alytus, Varėna, Utena and Rokiškis. So the situation is getting worse even in those that were green, “he said .
