On Sunday night, the Suvalkietis newspaper published a Facebook account on the social network that a 53-year-old woman had died of coronavirus at the Marijampolė Hospital. She died suddenly, although the ambulance doctors revived the woman while transporting her to the hospital.

This death was officially announced only on Tuesday, in a report distributed by the National Center for Public Health on new cases of COVID-19 infection and death in Lithuania.

We can’t say one way or another. I won’t say exactly how long I spent in the hospital. She was brought in in clinical death. While the resuscitation was carried out, she remained in the hospital. Information was provided only after two days

Although the woman died on Saturday the 24th, her death was only reported by the National Public Health Center (NVSC) on Tuesday.

Justina Petravičienė, specialist from the NVSC’s Internal Administration Division, explained to the Delfi portal that they provide information on deaths when they receive this information from medical institutions.

“Death of patients and certain illnesses, one of which is death, are confirmed by physicians, not by the National Center for Public Health. Hospital physicians must report deaths to the NVSC within 24 hours. Not all treatment facilities do this.

Our Marijampolė department received information about this death yesterday at noon. As usual, our specialists then note in the system that the person who was confirmed with COVID-19 died, and then we report that death, ”said J. Petravičienė.

At a Health Ministry press conference on Tuesday, epidemiologist Daiva Razmuvienė said that according to October data, in Lithuania, about 96-97 percent. patients are people under 65 years of age.
