Last day 413 new cases of coronavirus were detected in Lithuania, reported the Ministry of Health (SAM). 108 of them are registered in Vilnius, 104 in Kaunas, 90 in Šiauliai, 52 in Klaipėda, 15 in Panevėžys counties. Another 12 cases were recorded in Telšiai and Tauragė, 10 in Marijampolė, 9 in Alytus and 1 in Utena counties, reports the National Center for Public Health (NVSC).

Compared to Sunday’s figures on Monday, when 766 people were diagnosed, Tuesday appears to be calmer.

Half the beds are occupied

R.Veryga does not hide that the situation is complicated, the numbers are growing exponentially, but this is also the case throughout Europe, since approximately half of the new cases of coronavirus infection are detected here. “If there were still doubts about whether the virus was real or whether it would return, it should go away now,” the minister said.

He also highlighted that there are no violations of personal data when registering customers in catering establishments and the like. That decision was agreed with the Data Inspection.

A.Veryga also recalled that on Wednesday the Government will decide on the prohibition of events in closed and open spaces, except sporting events without spectators, cultural events, for which tickets are sold online and there are conditions to maintain distances of two meters.

Maybe it’s time to catch up. You will not stand a policeman next to everyone, even if you take a draconian, super strict measures, it will all depend on whether companies adhere to them or not.

“The growth of cases in Lithuania is exponential, the disease is spreading very fast, every meeting of this type represents a threat,” said the minister, who once again urged not to go to sports competitions. When asked why sports competitions could only take place without spectators and would be admitted to cultural events, the Minister recommended recalling what sports competitions look like and how a function is represented in a theater.

He argued that if these measures did not work, then there could be stricter restrictions, but that the current measures were not being followed.

“It just came to our attention then. You won’t stand a cop next to everyone, even if you take some draconian, super strict measures, everything will depend on whether society will follow them or not, ”said A.Veryga.

The Minister promised that beauty salons and similar institutions should continue to operate, unless there is a fireplace, but that everyone has already learned to work safely, they have the means, they can establish procedures to admit one client at a time and so on.

There are also no restrictions for family celebrations, home visits, but A.Veryga urged not to forget that family celebrations have repeatedly become the focus of the coronavirus.

The number of beds increased, but half were occupied

The number of hospital beds is increasing from 400 to 663, of which about half are occupied. Over the weekend alone, 60 patients were admitted. “It is a great challenge for institutions to reorganize beds and adapt them to COVID patients,” said A. Veryga.

He called on municipalities to actively cooperate with the organization of hospitals, especially for the Vilnius city municipality. According to the minister, the election is over, you have to work.

“The city of Vilnius must immediately cooperate with the Santara clinics, provide the beds that are needed, now is not the time for repairs,” the minister said.

It spreads in schools

Daiva Razmuvienė, Chief Specialist of the NVSC’s Communicable Disease Management Division, said that new cases were recorded throughout Lithuania, mainly in Vilnius County. “Most of those registered yesterday were infected with respect to those registered previously. About 60 percent. Are symptomatic, the rest are asymptomatic,” said the specialist.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,130 cases of medical illnesses have been registered, of which 555 are still ill, which is related to outbreaks in treatment and care centers.

42 cases were registered for students on Monday and since September 1. and 1110 cases among children and educational personnel. The disease is already spreading in about 50 schools.

According to A.Veryga, at the moment there is a pause in education – this week the children are on vacation, the next they will study at a distance, non-formal education will stop so that students meet as little as possible.

D.Razmuvienė also reported five deaths in the last day. Read more here.

Afternoon – for the dead

D.Razmuvienė also spoke about the long weekend of All Souls’ Day, recalling that it is time to visit the dead, so he urged not to visit elderly relatives, those with other illnesses, etc.

“The situation is very complicated”, warned D. Razmuvienė.

A representative from the NVSC also lamented the increase in comments about the alleged inability to perform work, greatly damaging the center staff who work nights. And the event at the weekend, when the information was published, which was later revised, according to D.Razmuvienė, happened because the information was published too early.

You may be able to register yourself

Recently, there have been complaints from people that it is difficult to register for a coronavirus test because the system is quite complex, there are many callers and we have to wait a long time.

The minister admits that there are actually a lot of calls on the hotline, he said after speaking with call center representatives, that often the same person calls multiple times. People are expected to find ways for people to check in for themselves, perhaps post peak times when the most calls are made, for those who want to explore to call at other times.

“There are definitely more people infected than is determined, and no one doubts it. If we study the entire population, only then the determination of that real number that we now publish daily. There is a test strategy, what to test, where to test more, where there can be a focus threat, ”said A.Veryga.

There is information that on Monday alone, the hotline called about 120,000 people. people, about 100 thousand. calls went unanswered. According to the minister, ways are being sought to facilitate the work of those who work there. “While some are in the arenas, others work at night. Let’s be better, then maybe we don’t need so much testing,” suggested the minister.

And, according to the minister, there is no shortage of mobile points, regardless of whether there is only one in Vilnius. There are also no plans to establish new fever clinics.

Asked how it happened that after the second wave of the coronavirus very quickly, the institutions where the weakest people were cared for and treated – grandparents, seriously ill – were once again the focus, saying that although access to these institutions is difficult, it is possible . And visitors are not necessarily healthy, even if they have a negative test right now, that doesn’t mean the test result won’t be different later on.

However, the concept of strict quarantine, according to the Minister, should be named more precisely by those who intend to introduce it. Let’s see what we mean: if we should close all stores except grocery stores, etc.

“I don’t think we need exactly the same quarantine as in the spring, but stricter measures will probably be needed,” the minister said.
