As the number of cases grows by hundreds, doctors send an alarm: control of the coronavirus has already been lost in Lithuania

As the number of cases grows by the hundreds every day, doctors urge us to behave responsibly and limit activities as much as possible and be personally responsible.

Prof. According to Mindaugas Stankūnas, measures such as contact tracing are no longer meaningful due to the large number of diagnosed cases.

According to him, the current control of the epidemic is reminiscent of “something like Mr. Jordan riding a ball around you, and you would run and juggle your hands and … the guy played.”

It also has the support of prof. V. Kasiulevičius.

“If the information from the NVSC is true, the establishment of contacts is no longer effective and control of COVID-19 in the country is lost. We fall into an area of extremely high virus spread, where the virus can be transmitted by anyone The biggest challenge will be the situation in medical institutions, because we will lack doctors, not beds, ”writes Prof. V. Kasiulevičius.

The professor argues that citizens must be able to act critically and sensibly in this situation, to use drugs responsibly, of which paracetamol and ibuprofen are the most necessary today, and it is also important to protect people at risk.

They’ll probably call me “Apocalypse Rider” after this Facebook post, but someone has to say this:

The biggest challenge is yet to come

Based on the experience of the first wave, prof. M. Stankūnas states that the most important task at the moment is the protection of the health system.

“We know from the beginning that the growth in the number of hospitalizations lags the growth of new cases. For example, during the first peak, the highest number of new cases was recorded in the last days of March and the first days of April, and the number of people hospitalized peaked between April 13 and 26, with a average of 135 hospitalized COVID-19 patients. Therefore, the number of hospitalized patients will increase, “writes M. Stankūnas.

The professor urges the government and health professionals to prepare and implement a global quarantine plan as soon as possible, which should be more lenient as some restrictions are not necessary, but the quarantine should be much stricter than current restrictions.

“This quarantine should have a clear end date. And with our heads down, we should say that it is being published because we have not been able to do our homework and prepare for the second peak. “Every minute of this quarantine should be used to develop a clear strategy, tools and algorithms on how to further handle this crisis,” the professor writes.

Meanwhile, prof. V. Kasiulevičius urges people to take care of their own safety and act responsibly: not being in rooms without a mask or simply not being where there is no vital need.

“Do not doubt for a moment that our state will resist this coup, because the state is not the government, but ourselves,” writes V. Kasiulevičius.

Prof. According to M. Stankūnas, a very clear advisory committee of scientists and specialists should also appear.

“We are not lying to ourselves. If we do not act now … we will do so in the future, but with much sadder consequences. That relatively quiet language that was there last week and stayed. Today is today,” M writes. Stankūnas.
