The Liberal Movement of the Republic of Lithuania won 13 seats in the Seimas elections and formed a coalition with the Conservatives and the Freedom Party.

“The positions we want are related to the priorities of our program,” V. Čmilytė Nielsen said while in self-isolation on Monday.

Edita Rudelienė, vice president of the Liberal Movement, later clarified that the party sees V. Čmilytė-Nielsen as spokesperson for the Seimas.

The party leader herself said that the most important thing for the Liberal Movement is to take over the jobs that fail the most with the greatest fluidity possible.

“This is the situation of the health system, which is becoming more complicated every day and, of course, the evaluation of our financial health,” said V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.

He also identified four of his priorities.

“First, there is the stability of the tax base. (…) We are in favor of a gradual review of the tax system. Our goal is to get rid of unnecessary taxes and possibly reduce those that would leave the most money in people’s pockets.

Another area is education. During the electoral campaign I spoke a lot about the need to agree on fundamental changes. It will be necessary to return to the national agreement. Increased funding is also necessary to reach all pupils or students.

The third area is the environment and the fourth is regional policy, ”he said.

He talked about pollution taxes

At a press conference held at the Lithuanian National Library Martynas Mažvydas, Seimas member Simonas Gentvilas said that if he became Minister of the Environment, he would change the current car registration fee.

“Block the poor with polluting cars. It is badly planned. (…)

In terms of fiscal policy, liberals will advocate for tax cuts other than pollution taxes. It goes without saying that these taxes can be avoided by doing the right thing while living. We need to encourage people to make greener choices, ”he said.
