The energetic work of many decades, the extremely meticulous research and the unending devotion to the knowledge of prehistory determined that R. Rimantienė is the first and most deserving researcher of Lithuanian archeology of the Stone Age. His discoveries, his examined and detailed picture of the Stone Age are Lithuanian Stone Age archeology.
The finds from several dozen ancient settlements excavated by him, especially at Sventoji and Nida, are fundamental material in the study of primary settlements in Northern Europe. R. Rimantienė is an example and an aspiration, which should be a true investigator of the past, capable not only of taking an interest in himself, but also of nurturing the interest of others in the mysterious Stone Age.
No recent theory can do without skill. Dr. The analysis of the works of Rimutė Rimantienė, his statements, presented in various monographs and hundreds of articles, is today the starting point for Stone Age research. Researchers from Lithuania and around the world are carefully studying the illustrations of their finds, delving into their interpretation of the Stone Age, following every detail mentioned. Much has been rethought, combined and compared with research material found in other parts of Europe.
Mastery of French, German, Scandinavian and other languages, active correspondence with the most famous archaeologists from abroad not only enriched the researcher’s understanding of the general Stone Age picture of our continent, but also introduced the Foreign scientists in Lithuanian prehistoric research and the name of our country.
His students and volunteers, who have been together in percussion and participated in the most interesting expeditions, unanimously agree: he is a personality who, with his stories and interpretation of prehistory, knew how to attract everyone’s attention. Probably, this is why R. Rimantien re can rejoice in even four generations of Stone Age specialists, who, as guides, were escorted into Stone Age archeology and discovered their own way. His key to professional archeology has always been meticulous systematic work and a strong, trustworthy and loyal team. Only in this way was it possible to do excellent and meaningful work and at the same time prepare excellent specialists for the future of Lithuanian archeology.
On the occasion of the centenary of R. Rimantienė on October 28. The Lithuanian National Museum will open a Stone Age exhibition “Can I talk to them?”, Giving meaning to the archaeologist’s lifelong work.
