Sakura garden planting started in Šiauliai on Friday. 30 sakura trees were planted in Song Park. The campaign was initiated and funded by the city-based company INTUS Windows. The event was attended by the ambassadors of the United States, Israel and Japan, the mayor of Šiauliai and other guests.

It was emphasized that it was symbolic that INTUS Windows company had started planting sakura (Japanese cherry trees) orchards in Šiauliai this year, when it was announced that 2020 is the year of Japan’s Vice Consul Chiyune Sugihara. It issued Japanese transit visas to Jews during World War II, saving the lives of more than 6,000 people. The Vilnius Gaon years and the Jewish history of Lithuania are also mentioned.

The event spoke about humanity and humanism preserved during the war, about the timeless values, which will be remembered by the sakura garden that flourished in Šiauliai.

Participants were welcomed at the event by fighters from the Baltic Air Police Mission flying over Dainai Park.
