According to him, Lithuanians like to fish in the lakes, but before buying equipment, it is important for everyone to evaluate not only the fishing location, but also the time of day and the weather conditions in which they intend to fish. For their part, financial experts note that if you decide to try a new activity, it’s important to plan for the costs associated with it responsibly, the report says.
Some look at fishing rods, other boats
In autumn, most Lithuanians continue to seek activities that can compensate for restrictions on traveling to foreign countries or attending their favorite events, which are gradually decreasing due to the coronavirus pandemic. The way out was to spend time in nature near lakes or rivers, so the interest in fishing grew naturally.
S.Vigraitis, an expert in this field, says that there have been several people who have never tried to fish before, but seasoned fishermen rushing to buy the latest fishing gear have not been left behind.
“The purchase of fishing rods, boats, launches and other accessories began. In the past, it was customary to simply swap an old boat for a new one or a rubber one for a plastic one, and now there are many people who have never encountered fishing before and have bought adapted gear for this activity for the first time, ”he says. S. Vigraitis.
According to the interlocutor, proper preparation for fishing does not require much effort. It may be enough to just buy a floating rod, build a spinning reel, and choose the bait you want to catch the fish on. It is usually satin or wobbly. According to S. Vigraitis, both are enough to fish and have a quiet time, but when choosing them it is important to assess where and when the fishing will take place.
“Choosing the right rod, reel, net or bait depends on a variety of factors. Both for the type of fish to be caught and for the time of day or year and the weather conditions chosen for fishing. The choice of equipment is also greatly influenced by whether the fishing will be in a lake or a river. As a general rule, Lithuanians like lakes better. Everything is simpler, more convenient, there is no current in them. The lakes also offer additional benefits. You can have fun, stay in an overnight camp, take a bath, spend the night, or bake fishing on a campfire. The rivers are slimy and fast, and there are few campsites near them, so there is less entertainment, ”shared S. Vigraitis.
Advises to anticipate the budget
According to the specialist, all fishermen choose differently: there is no more commonly purchased fishing rod or one of the most popular reels. Everyone’s choice depends on how seriously they take this activity and how much money they are willing to spend.

The price can range between 30 and 1000 euros. The most optimal option for most recreational anglers is a 100 euro fishing rod, a 50 euro reel, and a few other small accessories. All in all, it is usually spent up to € 250. Professional anglers are already choosing slightly more expensive rods and reels. The price of these starts from 300 euros ”, comments a fishing expert.
S. Vigraitis, who doubts about the most suitable fishing equipment that best suits his needs, also always urges to contact professionals in his field. They will not only select the most optimal gear, but also help prepare you for fishing, give helpful advice, and perhaps even reveal a secret spot where you are most likely to catch an impressive catch.
For his part, Skirmantas Ketvirtis, Director of the Sales Department of the General Financing Bank, recalls that in order to acquire a reliable and comfortable fishing rod, boat or other fishing equipment and properly prepare for fishing, it is important not to make hasty decisions .
“In order to spend as much time as possible in the wild or even engage in professional fishing, more reliable gear options are often considered. This may require a larger budget than is available, in which case the alternative might be a consumer loan or installment purchase. But in either case, it is important not to rush to buy blindly, you need to self-assess both your financial capabilities and your needs. It is usually very effective to budget ahead when planning expenses ”, S. Ketvirtis shares his advice.
Scandinavia can be replaced by Molėtai or Ignalina
At the same time, the bank’s representative recalls that when planning purchases for his hobby today, it would be appropriate to assess the global situation caused by the pandemic. As countries reintroduce travel restrictions, amateur and professional fishermen also face obstacles in going fishing abroad.
“If someone had an old dream of going on a fishing expedition abroad, today, obviously, there are more and more challenges for its realization. However, this does not mean that you have to give up your desire to fish entirely. In general, a trip of this type to Scandinavia can cost around a thousand euros or more, and this money, for example, today you can invest in a quality boat or in a boat that will serve you for 10 years or more ”, says S. Ketvirtis.
According to the expert, with such a purchase, it is possible to boldly mix all Lithuanian lakes or travel along the rivers of the country. “Today we have a wide range of opportunities to satisfy our fishing needs or other hobbies. More importantly, these purchases can bring joy not only to you, but also to your family or friends,” concludes the interlocutor.
