The farewell of the famous Lithuanian opera soloist Vaclov Daunor took place in the Great Hall of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater; in the afternoon, they took the urn out of the theater.
On a sunny afternoon, the deceased lay down for an eternal rest on Artists’ Hill in the autumn-colored Antakalnis Cemetery.
Vaclovas Daunor died on Monday at the age of 84. He is considered one of the most prominent artists in the history of Lithuanian opera.

According to Jonas Sakalauskas, director of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater, it is difficult to evaluate the legacy of V. Daunor in words, he is one of the most important soloists of the Lithuanian Opera. “This is the best Lithuanian coach of all time,” said J. Sakalauskas.

V. Daunoras was born in Žagarė in 1937, graduated from the Lithuanian Conservatory in 1962, taught at the Lithuanian Academy of Music for several decades, and was director of the Department of Singing and professor. His students are the opera soloists Jolanta Čiurilaitė and Sofija Jonaitytė.
The soloist is considered one of the most prominent artists in the history of Lithuanian opera. 1960 the young soloist made his debut in the opera Carmen as Escamillo. 1962 won the third place in the M.Glinka competition in Moscow. 1966 he won the fourth place in the international Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow.

V. Daunor worked for many years at the Lithuanian Opera and Ballet Theater, the Lithuanian Philharmonic, the Kaunas Musical Theater, and in 1966-1968 he did an internship at the La Scala Theater in Milan and in 1967. He made his debut at the stages with the famous Luciano Pavarotti: the Italian G. Verdi played Rigolete in the Duke and the Lithuanian in Monterone.
1971 Daunor won the Toulouse International Singers Competition in France Big prize. This competition belongs to the category of competitions of greater dominance, reason why the singers who have gained it will not be able to compete in other competitions later.

The soloist has toured Europe, the United States, Canada, Egypt.
For more than three decades, V. Daunoras sang on Lithuanian opera and concert stages. Subsequently, the singer presented the artistic and vocal experience accumulated at that time in his memoirs, in which he revealed the conflict between the artist and the totalitarian system, the dramatic and curious pages of his biography.
The famous opera soloist devoted his free time to painting and fishing. In 1988 he was a member of the initiative group of the Lithuanian Restructuring Movement.
After Lithuania regained its independence, V. Daunor went to the United States, lived there in 1994-2017, and taught singing privately.
In 1995, at the age of 58, he made his debut at the prestigious New York Metropolitan Opera and sang there for up to ten seasons. He toured Japan with this theater. 2005 the soloist ended his career due to being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
2018 A monograph on V. Daunor “The King Creates the Environment” prepared by the musicologist Jūratė Katinaitė appeared in Introducing this book, the legendary soloist received the honorary title of LNOBT Emeritus.
