Veryga: As of Monday, large municipalities can enter the red list

As the situation continues to rapidly deteriorate, Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga has hinted that it will be necessary to expand the number of COVID-19 patients while limiting other planned treatment services.

Ms Veryga spoke at a press conference on Friday about what additional actions are planned, and Daiva Razmuvienė, chief specialist in the Communicable Disease Management Unit of the National Center for Public Health (NVSC), commented more widely on the cases. recent coronavirus outbreaks and discussed the most concerning outbreaks.

A. Veryga did not hide: “Most of the large municipalities can be included in that list of red municipalities as of Monday.”

According to the minister, Vilnius should be included in the list of red municipalities.

The municipalities that appear in the red list must publish the local quarantine.

“Of course, this will not happen automatically, that decision will have to be made by the Government,” said the head of SAM.

“It is likely that the conditions are the same as in the 12 municipalities where the local quarantine has already been announced,” said the minister, who explained that a new list of dangerous municipalities must be circulated on Friday afternoon to decide where to introduce local quarantine. .

When traveling from such municipalities, there are certain restrictions on public transport: passengers must disembark at a distance of 1 meter and standing passengers must not be transported. There is also the obligation to wear a mask in public places, if the responsibility is not observed is the person and not the institution. It is forbidden to meet in these municipalities for groups of more than 5 people, except family members. A distance of 2 meters must be maintained between these groups. The visit of patients is prohibited, except in terminal conditions, as well as children and mothers. Religious communities are advised not to organize religious rites.

It is true that A. Veryga does not believe that the activities of sports clubs should be restricted in the municipalities where the local quarantine will be announced.

“For sports clubs <...> where local quarantine comes into effect, there are requirements of at least 10 square meters per visitor or recipient of the service, but there is no universal prohibition on the impossibility of providing said service ”, explained the Minister.

Overclocked at 60 percent. bed occupancy for COVID-19 patients

According to A. Veryga, of the 17 thousand hospital beds in hospitals, a total of about 10 thousand are currently occupied, and 650 resuscitation beds are occupied about 370. Of the beds that have oxygen devices, about 1.9 one thousand out of more than 6 thousand are employed.

“In general, if we talk about infectious patients, the beds for COVID-19 patients, where we have exceeded 60%. job. We have just over 400 of these beds and the institutions have provided a number that could expand that number in the near future by adding another 260 beds. In the regions, if there is such a need, there are still around 550 beds that could be used to treat COVID-19 patients, ”the minister said.

At a press conference, the journalists asked the minister in which case temporary hospitals would be built.

“In fact, so far this is a theoretical opportunity to use additional infrastructure. Let’s not forget that we have those infrastructures that do not need to be built, we have sanatoriums, those institutions that are not used for active treatment, they must be used first of all without attacking to build something. especially in such weather conditions. And one more thing I would like to remind you: the main problem is not finding a bed and building it somewhere. The bed and the outdoor building will not cure patients. That building needs drugs, oxygen , artificial lung ventilation. Let us understand that we will not multiply the doctors. In the spring, why there was talk of additional infrastructures, because there was a different approach to the virus. At that time, all patients with coronavirus were hospitalized, “said A. Veryga.

There are more and more untraceable cases

According to epidemiologist D. Razmuvienė, at this time it would be difficult to distinguish where the virus spreads the most: “it spreads everywhere, in companies, organizations, treatments, educational institutions and places of leisure. So far, no cases have been recorded in the groups of artists and choirs. Now there are 2, in Vilnius and Kaunas. There is no longer one area to prevent 1 or 2 outbreaks, this is the case in all areas. “

Additionally, there are a growing number of untraceable coronavirus cases.

“At the beginning of September, there were up to 20% of those unknown, untraceable cases. Currently, 28 percent of those untraceable cases are. They are increasing every day. People may sometimes not want to say where they were involved, but they are among those that cannot be traced, ”said the epidemiologist.

Vaccines are a worrying state of mind

Also at a press conference, the minister said that there was an interview with the developers of the coronavirus vaccine.

“We met with representatives of the developers of the coronavirus and talked about some things that are very relevant. For the vaccine to be developed successfully and reach the country, a number of important questions need to be addressed: how the vaccine will get to the country and how will be distributed.

We also discuss the need to train additional specialists, here we are talking about pharmacists. We talk about informing the public, about the occasional and disturbing feelings about skepticism about vaccines themselves, and we will try to inform the public about the safety of vaccines. And we discussed some legal aspects that are important for people who decide to get vaccinated, ”said the head of the Ministry of Health (SAM).
