“The isolation will only apply to those who come from red and gray countries,” Health Minister Aurelius Veryga told a news conference on Friday.
As previously announced, countries will be assigned for one of the four zones: green, yellow, red or gray. This system has been recommended by the Council of Europe, and Lithuania itself has been included in the yellow list of countries.
The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) already publishes a color breakdown of countries based on three criteria:
- 14-day morbidity rate (100 thousand inhabitants);
- The proportion of positive tests among tests performed within 7 days (percentage);
- Test volumes in 7 days (number of tests per 100 thousand inhabitants).
Latest – October 22 the map can be found here. These data will also be used by the SAM of Lithuania when publishing the lists of affected countries. It is true that Lithuania will not evaluate other countries as regions, as the ECDC does.

You don’t want to isolate; you will need a negative test, but there will still be limitations
Another important aspect is the exceptions, which will not be isolated even if they come from red or gray countries, if they belong to the Schengen area.
You can see the exceptions in the illustration. These include, for example, transport workers doing critical work, journalists, sailors.

“Those who do not fall under the listed exceptions will need, if they don’t want to be isolated and want to be able to go to work, to have passed the COVID-19 test result at least 48 hours ago. Or, when you come to Lithuania, take the test here. and until you get a negative result, isolate yourself at home ”, explained A. Veryga.
If people do not want to take the test, they must comply with isolation for 10 days. Employers are then encouraged to work remotely.
“But that doesn’t mean that people who will test negative will be able to visit any place in those 10 days to go to entertainment venues. They will continue to be subject to the home work regime, ”explained the minister.
A.Veryga clarified that this order will also apply to tourists returning from red or gray countries. “It just came to our knowledge then. Work can. But not to an entertainment center, a contest or anywhere else. But you can go to work if you have a negative test or have received such a test result in Lithuania.” said the minister at the press conference.
R.Veryga hoped that even if the ET countries’ recommendations were applied to other countries, travel, especially work, would be easier. “It just came to our attention then. The problem is no longer the imported cases, but the main problem is already the spread within countries. Certainly, imported cases are no longer the main problem, and here we are not going to be very careful. ”, Acknowledged the Minister.
