The resolution was registered by Seimas member Vytautas Bakas together with Parliamentarians Virgilijus Alekna, Arvydas Anušauskas, Aušrine Armonaitė, Sergejs Jovaiša, Laurynas Kasčiūnas and Andrius Kupčinskas.
The members of the Seimas urge the Government to enter into an intensive dialogue with the governing bodies of the aforementioned associations and to agree that only people of impeccable reputation can hold leadership positions in the LFF.
Furthermore, the government is advised that representatives contact the international football associations (FIFA and UEFA) to find out how the LFF uses the funds received from the organizations.
Updated at 1:35 PM. Tv3.lt contacted one of the Seimas members, Laurynas Kasčiūnas, who recorded the resolution.
According to him, it has been clear to everyone in Lithuania for a long time that the management of football must be reviewed and reorganized, and the resolution is the beginning of what should sooner or later bear fruit.
“We know this is a long-standing problem. Of course, we understand that political interference must be taken seriously. Therefore, we ask UEFA and FIFA to contribute to the follow-up.
This is the beginning of the beginning. We need to start a serious debate on the future of the LFF and its role in Lithuanian football. For today, this is just the beginning, ”said L. Kasčiūnas on tv3.lt.
Asked about how realistic it is to initiate the respective dialogue and the reorganization of the management of the LFF, the member of the Seimas assured that a great example is the previous trips to foreign countries.
“I believe that new decisions will be made with the Seimas of the new mandate. I hope there are more people who care about football and its future.
Examples from other countries show that this is true. If you accept it and don’t pay attention, it is clearly unrealistic, but we have to start moving this issue, “said L. Kasčiūnas.
According to V. Bakas, such a resolution was prompted by the situation of Lithuanian football in recent years: “It is not normal when people who are associated with representatives of the criminal world gain great influence in the country’s sports. The participation of these people in the governance of the organization is a threat to the transparent, open and democratic government of the Football Federation. It is a matter of the image of Lithuania. Nor can we be indifferent to educating our children in such a sports system. A more transparent governance of sport would lead to better results from children to professionals. “
The resolution emphasizes that the LFF simply does not publish solutions relevant to the soccer community. Furthermore, it is emphasized that the issue of Lithuanian football has a significant impact on the reputation and prestige of Lithuania.
“Naturally, there are doubts about who the federation uses the funds received in the absence of financial statements. In addition, the football community is not familiar with many problems that directly affect it, and we have such a situation due to the non-transparent management of the organization, – said V. Bakas. – We must understand that Lithuanian football is closely related to the prestige of the state, and the management of people with a negative reputation can have consequences for the reputation and trust in our country. The Seimas, the Government, the The sports community cannot stay on the sidelines, because sport is a public interest and a source of pride for all of us ”.
