“A week ago, I could have been happy with up to 10 isolated cases in Marijampolė, today we are already approaching the” red “zone threateningly. The NVSC (National Center for Public Health) statistics currently count 60 patients in Marijampolė, but in reality the numbers are even higher when patients are assigned to other municipalities, even though they actually work or live in Marijampolė.
I receive information from the NVSC every day about 10 or more recent infection cases, and the number of high-risk contacts is not satisfactory either. Every day several dozen Marijampolė residents have to go into self-isolation. I do not publicly detail specific cases or outbreaks as NVSC personally interacts with all at-risk contacts. However, the number of cases is increasing both in commercial institutions and in healthcare institutions, ”P. Isoda wrote on Facebook.
According to the mayor, after Wednesday’s government meeting there will likely be new restrictions and requirements.
“It just came to our attention then. The virus may be right next door. The situation is really threatening and dangerous, we all need awareness and concentration like never before. Be careful. Protect yourself and those around you,” Isoda wrote.
Provide recommendations to municipalities
As already announced, on Wednesday the government should decide on the zoning of municipalities according to the morbidity of COVID-19, as well as consider a proposal to extend the fall holidays for students, wrote BNS.
The Minister of Health will present a proposal to the Government to divide the municipalities according to the prevalence of the coronavirus into green, yellow and red zones, confirmed BNS Lina Bušinskaitė, spokesperson for Aurelijus Veryga.
The minister mentioned this week that a decision would be made on what virus transmission management recommendations to provide to the municipality, and this new procedure could take effect next week.
Mr. Veryga mentioned that if municipalities were divided into zones, there would be no restrictions on green and individual recommendations would be given to municipalities in yellow. In the red zone, it would be recommended to restrict events, organize telework and education, review health care services, restrict the flow of people at points of sale, introduce the requirement to wear masks everywhere, as well as decide the local quarantine.
The government also intends to consider proposals to extend the student license.
As Kęstutis Butvydas, representative of the Minister of Education, Science and Sports told BNS, it has not yet been agreed how long the holidays can be extended.
Both proposals will still be decided in the COVID-19 Steering Committee convened on Wednesday before the Government meeting.
