The proposal to extend student leave for school leaders was unexpected and unpleasant: it explained how the two weeks change

It was also pointed out at the press conference that the epidemiological situation is complicated in Plungė and Kelmė districts, as well as that the quarantine regime was introduced in Raseiniai some time ago. A. Veryga’s suggestion that student vacations should be extended and that there should be a pause in the educational process was unexpected to the school principals.

School leaders view this decision ambiguously

Linas Dargevičius, director of the Jonas Zemaitis Gymnasium in Raseiniai, stated that she had read such information in the press yesterday.

“Looking at the epidemiological situation, there may be logic, but if you look at the quality of education, it is not very good. We have been switching to distance education for almost a month and that educational process has already slowed down. I believe that Raseiniai students and especially graduates have already suffered losses compared to other schools. If another week is missed, how will it be necessary for the teacher to expose everything in the curriculum and how will it be necessary to be able to prepare for the graduate exams?

In his opinion, the school year would be shortened again, which is already special.

“So this is new news and so far we are looking at it from two sides. Perhaps some intermediate option could be devised? For example, graduates could continue their studies and that license could be extended to younger students. Such thoughts arise and, from otherwise, there is really no great joy. That would be a compulsion, “he commented.

Vaiva Zubrickienė, director of Raseiniai Šaltiniai Progymnasium, also did not express much enthusiasm for the ringtone.

“We haven’t had time to consider this idea in the team yet, but in my own opinion, I don’t know if it’s a good one. The children have longed for that school and if there is even the slightest chance of going back, of course everyone wants to. I don’t think this is the right time to extend the holidays for another week. The fall vacation week, which is foreseen in the curricula, I think is enough for the children to rest and return, if the opportunity allows it, to school. Until now, it has been planned that after these holidays we should go back to study by contact, but when we have a different situation in the district than in the whole of Lithuania, the decisions are made not only by the district government, but also by the government. Also, as far as I know, this Wednesday the issue of the extension of the quarantine will be addressed. “

Rita Andrulienė, director of the Kražiai Žygimantas Liauksminas gym, commented that the circumstances are not very clear so far.

“It is not clear if that leave will be taken from elsewhere or if the school year will be extended, so those questions arise. If we extend that vacation now, it is clear that there will be difficulties for the students, because it is a fairly busy and busy period. somehow it is very difficult to quit now, ”he explained.

He also noted that preparations for distance education are still ongoing and new tools are gradually being mastered, but chaos still prevails until now.

“Both the content is not organized and the digital content is not organized so that we can work at full capacity today. Certainly, there are many more difficulties of this type and not exactly as they should be. “

Irma Stankuvienė, director of the Kelmė district Tytuvėnai gym, also evaluated the Health Minister’s proposal in an ambiguous way.

“On the one hand, distance learning does not in itself offer as many opportunities for the student as contact learning. The introduction of the holidays also shortens the contact teaching for students and in any case I do not think it will decrease the number of days of education, so the question is what will happen with the end of the educational process, if it will move to June. Even if we add holidays, the education days should remain the same. We understand very well what the conditions are like in June, when it’s hot and we don’t have air conditioning. “

On the other hand, he said, it is no longer necessary to prepare for distance education, because after the “spring test” all schools are ready for it in one way or another.

Tomas Kivaras, director of the Kaunas KTU Gymnasium, said it would be more rational if there was a need for distance education to be compulsory for all students.

“If children only have vacations, it will be difficult for someone to see them so that they do not walk around the city and participate in other people’s activities. I think it would be much better for them to be busy at least half a day, instead of spending time somewhere in the city. mall ”, he commented.

According to him, distance education has affected the entire educational process, but the KTU gym is glad that so far no cases of coronavirus have been recorded in it.

ŠMSM: No solution

Nomeda Barauskienė, head of the Communication Department of the Ministry of Education and Science, pointed out that she still has no answer on the extension of the students’ license and will inform you immediately when something is decided.

“There is still no solution, because our ministry still has to take it for the holidays. It will probably be clear today or tomorrow at the latest, we will report it immediately, “he said.

Delfi remembers that fall break for students must start on Monday, October 26 and must return to school on November 3.

The minister clarified his idea of extending the study license as follows: “This is just an idea that has not been approved. As a result, 2 weeks is because this is the period in which at least one incubation cycle takes place and during which some more positive result and some change in a more positive direction can be expected. But there is a “yes”. If such a mechanism is agreed, and if there are more accompanying measures, restrictions on events, other public places where children do not simply gather and the spread of the virus in at least one area is limited. That would be an opportunity to reduce the spread of the virus. “

In Plungė and Kelmė districts, distance education has returned. When asked if more institutions plan to switch to distance education, the minister replied: “Apparently, inevitably some institutions will switch it where infections will spread.

So far, the massive transition to distance education is not planned and efforts are being made to avoid it as much as possible, because, again, that constant presence in distance education is detrimental to the education and development of the child “.
