After convening an emergency meeting in the Kaunas district municipality over the weekend, the activities of health institutions during the period of the pandemic were discussed, when the epidemiological situation in Lithuania continues to deteriorate in recent days.
According to the report, the most important topic of the meeting, which was attended by the heads of health institutions and the Kaunas district municipality, is how to properly and operationally handle the second wave of COVID-19 disease. During the meeting, the resumption of activities of the Kaunas District Fever Clinic in Garliava was also discussed. It could contribute significantly to diverting flows of fever patients from hospital admissions.
“The situation in the Kaunas district is under control. It is good that there are no outbreaks of disease in our schools, the teaching process runs smoothly and continuously. We work as a cohesive team, therefore by concentrating and mobilizing even more, we will be able to successfully overcome the second wave of the COVID-19 disease, ”said Kaunas District Mayor Valerijus Makūnas.

The COVID-19 incidence rate before the weekend in the Kaunas district municipality was 77.8 per 100,000 inhabitants (slightly more than the total rate for Lithuania – 74.6).
Milda Labašauskaitė, a doctor from the municipality, recalled that, taking into account the emergency situation, it was decided to vaccinate the residents of the district against the flu. Approximately 1,5 thousand people are vaccinated with municipal funds. accommodating. In recent weeks, all doctors who work in health establishments who have requested it have been vaccinated. Almost 1,000 people who work in the Municipality, the elderly, educational, welfare and social service institutions, public health offices, libraries, museums, schools of culture and sports have already received vaccines. The vaccine will be administered to 50 more people who have expressed a desire to receive the free vaccine and have registered through the Office of Public Health.
The situation in the Kaunas district is under control.
“We constantly carry out preventive tests for COVID-19 on employees of health and social care institutions. Additionally, we studied patients who spent more than 48 hours in treatment facilities. This test has already become our daily routine, ”said M. Labašauskaitė.
“We test all ambulance employees according to a very strict schedule, twice a month, sometimes even more frequently,” confirmed Nelita Gudžiūnaitė-Bybartienė, director of the Kaunas district ambulance station. According to Dainora Kudzinskienė, director of the Vilkija Primary Health Care Center, employees of the institution under her direction who work in the nursing hospital are tested every week.
According to the municipal doctor, prophylactic examinations of the nasopharynx go smoothly, because the staff of the outpatient clinic PSPC Domeikava is responsible for conducting these examinations and delivering them to the laboratory. In order to provide an even better quality service, a module will be built next to the outpatient clinic, in which not only would prophylactic nasopharynx exams be performed safely and operatively, but rapid tests would also be performed to perform the groups of target population.
According to the Municipality, since the spring, from the very beginning of the quarantine, specialists from the Kaunas District Public Health Office have been working continuously. They are especially helpful in the call center, where you provide advice to residents on self-isolation, on COVID-19 investigation.
During the meeting, Laurynas Dilys, director of the office, mentioned that during the pandemic a close model of cooperation with schools was formed: specialists go to schools, where they organize various trainings, provide consultations and other necessary help.
Nijolė Kliučienė, director of the Garliava Primary Health Care Center, confirmed that if necessary, the fever clinic could be reopened. “We will prepare the work schedules in advance so that the doctors know on which days they would have to work in this clinic, we will discuss the number of shifts and the like,” explained the director.
