The draft stipulates that pharmacies could vaccinate the population as of November 1 this year, but until then, parliament will not be able to approve the amendment.
The amendment was approved this week after its presentation and will be considered by the Seimas Health Affairs Committee. The hearing at Seimas Hall is scheduled for November 5, the Seimas Public Relations Division announced.
Under the amendment, pharmacists with advanced practices could begin vaccinating the population with vaccines against influenza and tick-borne encephalitis earlier in pharmacies. It would not be an obligation: vaccination can only be carried out by pharmacies that are ready.
“When the COVID-19 vaccine reaches Lithuania, we will need to vaccinate a large population and do it as quickly as possible. Patients who are ready can also vaccinate patients with the COVID-19 vaccine. It would be another additional channel that would allow a slight reduction the burden of personal health institutions and would allow a larger and faster vaccination against coronavirus infection, ”said A. Veryga during the presentation.
